Good news!

It's early days, but hurrah for common sense prevailing (so far).

They played what the bishop said on R4 last night and then that he's now claiming to be quoted out of context.... I couldn't think of any possible 'context' that could justify the nasty, deceitful line he had taken.

Shameful. Are we suprised?

I guess I'm strange in that I like Alex Salmond.

Anyway, well done Big Eck and well done Scotland.

Fanny, I hope that most people looking at that interview would think 'what a lying bigot', and that in the end the archbishop will have an opposite effect on the debate to what he intended.

But having known the closest member of Carins' family - his husband - I worry how devastating the attack is on a personal level. Pancreatitis can be an awful, slow, painful way to die. Imagine losing your life partner and then a year later someone holds them up in public as an example of bringing death on yourself through your sexual orientation.

Yes. An infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of typewriters couldn't come up with an acceptable context for those comments.

How sad that he can't just put his hands up to prejudice and pray to be a better man in future.

Suzikettles, yes, how do you tackle prejudice? Do you conscientiously try to unravel it and find out what it stems from, or do you just stamp on it, and hope that people just fall in line?

There was a really good opinion piece in The Scotsman about the poison-mouthed priest: priest

If you want a look at the consultation report, it's here: consultation

Fantastic piece from Joyce MacMillan. Thanks for sharing, AngusOg. (was that a cartoon in the Daily Record)
