I heard about it yesterday, so very sad. My thoughts are with the family. The poor, poor father.

We were there just the other day and a young girl was having a great time in the pit village dressed in period clothes and bringing coal in for the fires in the cottages, I thought how wonderful it was that the children of staff and volunteers were so welcome at weekends and holidays and what a great experience it must be for them. I sincerely hope that it doesn't change.

I know it's a fantastic place.

There's rumours the boy was driving it? Can't imagine it's true though?

Gosh I hope not. I've not heard that though. There was a thread on the MID FB site yesterday until it was deleted because a couple of people mentioned details that were unreleased officially at the time. One of the people posting on there was at the scene, one of her party is a nurse and was first medical person on scene. There was no mention of anything like that.

It was the Daily Fail I think?

How awful for those who witnessed it Sad

I have been following this tragic story as we too have been several times. Latest news says the father was driving. Too sad for words.

CuriousMama · 23/07/2012 14:07

There's a picture of the lad on that link now. And says his father is a volunteer there. How totally tragic Sad

Absolutely awful. I can't stop thinking about this. We often go to Beamish and have probably passed them so many times.

He came from my hometown. I know people with that surname who lived nearby.
