I fully understand the residents concerns and I may be am probably being dense but what are they for?

Presumably for shooting down any rogue aircraft heading towards the stadium, but really, over London?

@Sardine. I'm guessing that the proximity of lots of tall buildings would limit the ability of the missiles. You can't launch a missile from the ground if there's a building in the way.

@Talkinpeace. If heaven forbid something ever did happen then the PM would be johnny on the spot. He'd be damned if he did, damned if he did nothing. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes but yes...if something happened he would be the one to make the 'best' decision (not that there is one).

We have hills in london! Really big ones!

They could put them at the top of any number of high points which are parks and so on. Easy.

Would make a walk on Hampstead Heath quite, um, alarming. But possibly less alarming than having a platoon of heavily armoured soldiers on your roof.

I think Eltham and Welling are fairly respectable, rather dull commuter towns, rather than a hotbed of BNP/ EDL tension....

edam · 13/07/2012 21:10

Eltham's where Stephen Lawrence was killed, isn't it?

TalkinPeace2 · 13/07/2012 21:16

edam
nothing personal, but please ask for that comment to be deleted.
Eltham, Lee, Kidbrooke and Bexley have taken HUGE strides in recent years to move on.
And a few shit head gangster kids from 20 years ago are irrelevant to the
GROSS devaluation of civil rights that is being carried out by LOCOG

Aboutlastnight · 13/07/2012 21:24

Yes 20 years ago by a gang of cement- head petty criminals. But its a pretty dull commuter town, populated by white and black people getting on with life.

I don't think Edam's post should be deleted

edam · 13/07/2012 21:27

I'm not going to ask for it to be deleted - it's a statement of fact. You've replied saying what it's like now. That's fair enough, I'm very glad to hear it.

edam · 13/07/2012 21:28

What's LOCOG doing to Eltham, btw?
