I have just been reading about that advert. It is vile!

The ASA adjudication in full is here;

The only good thing about that advert is that it must have drained their resources a fair bit to get it published.

And probably Marks and Spencer enjoyed record sales during Mother's Day weekend Smile

Hahahahahahahahaha.

When I saw this in the Guardian online, I was very disappointed to see you couldn't comment on it.

I wanted to point out that the baby didn't have "cocklodger" written on it, so the ad was entirely unrepresentative of MN views. :o

carernotasaint · 04/07/2012 21:55

Agreed echt. As recently as last week there have been threads started on here about financial abuse. one that springs to mind is the one where the OPS DP likes the bills split straight down the middle leaving him with 150 pounds a week spends and the OP with £10 a week.
I wonder how many members of F4J have done this or similar.

echt · 04/07/2012 22:15

I've been on MN for over 4 years, and never seen the kind of stuff they refer to. There are silly, "men, can't wash up, eh?" statements, which is a generalisation and can be boring, but not big-league stuff. Really damaging generalisations are leapt on immediately.

In common with some posters who see the same anti-male bias, F4J seem unable to accept that OPs post about a particular circumstance, usually because it's extreme, therefore it IS more likely to abusive/controlling, whatever.

There's also no shortage of posters to put an OP right if they feel a sense of proportion is lacking.

If only F4J would intervene to challenge fathers who give dads a bad name. Now that would be a worth campaigning on.
