At last the government are proposing something very very sensible - lets hope people will actually strap their kids in when it comes into force, not let them sit in the front and only have the right number of passengers!!

My big mouth has gone off on one in the last few months a couple of times when I have seen people with lovely cars (so money not an issue) let their kids climb all over the inside of the car when they are driving and one time a lady - ho brags about her 'big' house let 6 children pile into the back of her a class merc!!! - lets hope next time she does it she gets arrested!!

about time this came in...my 2dd's have booster seats that will last until they are 11. they are inexpensive, makes me so angry when kids are not strapped in safely.

Dinosaur, where do you buy seat belt adaptors - very intersted in this for DS1 for our big trip in May.

SoupDragon · 05/03/2006 10:31

dejags, lots of places sell them - they kind of join the lap and shoulder belts together which pulls the shoulder belt down off the child's neck. Try looking at Kiddicare or mothercare. I got one from a mothercare store.

I agree, its a good idea but its a bit of a pain for us as we have 3 step kids which we only see one day a week so will we need to buy seats for them just to use once a week for a five min car trip? How is it going to work for people using taxi's?

Freckle · 05/03/2006 11:31

OK, I don't understand these rules. They say children age 3+ and up to 135cm in height have to use child restraints. It then goes on to say that adult seat belts are suitable for children over 150cm. So what happens to those between 135cm and 150cm?? Which applies to all 3 of my children!

misdee · 05/03/2006 11:33

marne, why cant you just borrow the seats off the step kdis other parent?

Marne · 05/03/2006 13:35

Not much chance of her leting us borrow them off her.

Keepingmum, I manage to fit three in the back of my rather teeny peugeot 306. One baby car seat (big) and two jane booster chair thingy's (with arms and a back) don't know if you find this reasuring?!

Oh, and my parents were exactly the same and it was sooooo embarrassing!

We have a proton persona (stylish hmmm? Wink), we can get two booster seats and a britax eclipse in there, but only just.

We need to buy a bigger car as soon as I graduate, my parents don't drive and as theya ge are getting less mobile. But apparently Dh heard that they're going to put a tax hike on people carriers. Which we can't afford. So it looks like a Fiat Multipla then.
