It's a bit scary!

lovechoc · 07/06/2012 10:58

One man dead, several critically ill. Awaiting more news on this...

At least they've now found the probable source of legionella. Very sad, sad situation for many who are now ill in hospital. Hope no more lives are taken.

My accountant has a cold. He's terrified because he lives in the affected area and was heading to the Docs just to check!

lovechoc · 08/06/2012 19:44

Hope he's okay. I feel sorry for the locals, really. Think there are four sites possibly linked to it now.

Are you in Edinburgh?

lovechoc · 08/06/2012 21:03

No, I'm not in the city but do have relatives there (thankfully not Gorgie area).

can't believe they've not kept on top of tower monitoring after the recent hot weather especially. Confused

the regulations are very clear on this stuff. :(

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/06/2012 21:08

We used to live opposite the cooling towers which have been shut down, scary.

lovechoc · 08/06/2012 21:09

Well, it's going to take several more days to get to the bottom of it (if they ever do get to the bottom of it).

jaggythistle · 08/06/2012 21:14

surely anyone operating a cooling water tower must have records of their monitoring?

where i work they are tested every single day they are running, to make sure that the dosing system is doing it's job of keeping any bugs down.

lovechoc · 08/06/2012 21:16

I know very little about cooling towers until I saw it on the news on Monday.

I live quite near the area concerned, my sons school is even closer! I know someone who works for one of the possible sites involved and they said that their maintenance is contracted out to a specialist company who takes the samples and treats the towers. So if it was them it wasn't like they weren't trying to maintain them. I'm also in healthcare so it's been a challenging week. Hopefully the worst is over now!

I live about 5 minutes away and a mum at school has it. Ds became ill earlier and I had a wee panic cos he was in a hot tub in SW Edinburgh. My friend's stepdad is very poorly with it and has been in ERI since Monday. I wasn't too fussed until 6pm when ds showed signs of being ill. He's not high risk but you can't help but worry just incase as you never know who may get it.

lovechoc · 08/06/2012 21:47

Fingers crossed Groovee that your DS is alright and free from the virus, am sure he'll be okay.

Lyndie, sounds like you've had a rough week so far! Hope things improve next week and the poorly are improving.

lovechoc · 08/06/2012 21:47

Am honestly surprised more people are not talking about this with it being in the news for five days now.

Jeez my friend (another mum from school) has been given antibiotics as she's been ill with similar symptoms for 4 weeks now. She's having tests to check her Sad

lovechoc · 08/06/2012 21:57

Oh goodness, hope the anti-biotics help. That is awful :(

I hope your friends get better soon, groovee. Horrible.

Groovee · 10/06/2012 20:50

My friend's step dad came home today which is a positive step.

Ds has a very nasty eye infection and dd seems to have a virus which most of her class seem to have. Hopefully they'll all be better soon.

Haven't heard about the other mum's yet!

lovechoc · 11/06/2012 11:53

Groovee that's a huge relief about your friend's step-dad. :) All news seems to be low key on the outbreak just now. I will check regional news later for more updates.

Got given antibiotics today and test sent off...they are just playing it immensely safe I think, have had bad flu symptoms but wasn't in the area for long

edam · 11/06/2012 22:37

Groovee, glad to hear about your friend's Dad, hope everyone else recovers too. Very sad about the one poor man who has died.
