Extremely disturbing news story

Here is one of the worst news stories I've ever heard.

A man, with a history of domestic violence towards his partner, gouged out her eyes after strangling her and breaking her jaw and nose. He's admitted to GBH and will be sentenced in a month's time.

I can't even think of a suitable sentence. Well, I can, but it isn't one he'll get.

PErhaps this should be in news?

BonnieBumble · 13/04/2012 16:18
Sad
ChickenSkin · 13/04/2012 16:22

I saw this earlier and I do think it's relevant to the relationship boards. People need to be aware of how domestic violence can escalate into the unthinkable.
That poor woman. I've been thinking about her all day.

oh god, how awful, that poor poor woman. What an evil fucking bastard to do that :'(

HoudiniHissy · 13/04/2012 16:38

Oh dear god. I actually feel sick.

Do you all see the HATRED he had for her? 12 hours after he strangled her for the express reason of being able to gouge out her eyes and break her face to bits he kept her prisoner with those terrible injuries and STILL BLAMING HER FOR HIS ATTACK ON HER?

To all the lurkers You are suffering, or he's hit you a couple of times.... Did you SEE? she thought she could help him!

She also said "It's not going to get any better, it will only get worse"

It really IS that simple. Abusers get worse. Abusers harm their partners. Abusers KILL their partners.

It'll never get any better than it is today. It will only ever get worse. Until you get yourself and your DC OUT.

Shock
chipmonkey · 13/04/2012 16:51

Times like this I think the Old Testament way "An eye for an eye..." would be exactly what that bastard deserves![anger] The poor, poor woman.Sad

Eurostar · 13/04/2012 16:54

I see this got moved out of relationships. Why?

So disturbing - how did she survive that?

There is a clip on the news story from the police urging people to not think that they can change a violent partner and to report to the police asap any violent event.

OrmIrian · 13/04/2012 16:57

Sick nasty man Angry Why?

pictish · 13/04/2012 17:01

How inutterably dreadful. Sad

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 13/04/2012 17:01

Surely GBH doesn't cover that?

He hasn't lost his rag and thumped someone (not that that would be ok, but it is a heat of the moment thing), this is pre-meditated damage he has caused here.

I hope that when he gets banged up, someone does something equally vile to him. Angry

That poor, poor woman :(

NoraHelmer · 13/04/2012 17:02

Sick isn't it? I've just seen the story on AOL. I expect he'll get some unpleasant treatment in prison.

AnyFucker · 13/04/2012 17:03

there is another thread about this too

absolutely sickening Shock Sad

smugmumofboys · 13/04/2012 17:03

It's truly hideous. Her injuries are horrific. I heard the interview with her at lunchtime: it made me cry but her words also chilled me. She said something along the lines of 'He went too far this time'. So sad that she was conditioned by this evil man to 'accept' a certain level of violence.

I hope he rots.

AnyFucker · 13/04/2012 17:06

the other thread is in AIBU

carernotasaint · 13/04/2012 17:42

Poor lady. It broke my heart when she said she missed seeing her kids.
I hope this fucker gets unspeakable things happening to him while in prison.
EVIL EVIL CUNT.

crazynanna · 13/04/2012 17:49

Yes carer that is the bit that made me sob...when she said she can hear her dcs' voices' around her...but cannot/will not ever see their faces'. Sad

I just cannot imagine.....

duchesse · 13/04/2012 18:21

It's barbaric. The guy should be locked away for life, meaning life.

That's the first time I've ever heard a police force issue some sensible advice regarding DV- as in "leave the fucker, he's not going to change".

duchesse · 13/04/2012 18:23

smugmum- I thought that. Then I wondered if she was deliberately understating to cope with the horror, then realised that she'd gone back to him several times after DV so fear you could be right, that she kind of expected DV.

NOBODY SHOULD PUT UP WITH ANY LEVEL OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

I will keep saying that till my last breath.

Heyyyho · 13/04/2012 18:28

The level of a mind to do this to another Human being.

What kind of black hole does this man exist in.

ImperialBlether · 13/04/2012 18:31

I wonder why this was moved from Relationships? I put it there because I thought it would resonate with some of the women there who do think they can change men.

I agree, Heyyyho - I've no idea what it must be like to be in his head.

OP posts:
ledkr · 13/04/2012 18:34

Unbelievable, Gbh/ GBH/ REALLY?

duchesse · 13/04/2012 18:36

I guess from a legal point of view they may not have been able to have him convicted of attempted murder, but stood a much better chance of a GBH conviction with a tariff that goes up to life in jail anyway.

FondleWithCare · 13/04/2012 18:59

The maximum sentence for GBH is life, I hope he gets it.

It's so awful, I can't even imagine what she's been through because of him. I really hope that this can go some way to convincing some domestic abuse sufferers to leave abusive partners and get help.
