I have 'sat' on this article for a few weeks, not knowing if it were voyeuristic in some manner, especially as it came out the same time as the north Korea one - but I know so many of you love keeping up with what's going on in the world. It's long and harrowing, be warned.

fucking hell, I can't get past the first paragraph - should have heeded your warning

MightyNice · 05/04/2012 17:57

thanks for posting it though

ragged · 05/04/2012 18:24

Fascinating read if you can stomach it.

LaVitaBellissima · 05/04/2012 18:40

I hope this gets some serious press coverage, what a harrowing read Sad

SardineQueen · 05/04/2012 18:41

Thank you for posting that.

Really appalling.

Sweepitundertherug · 05/04/2012 19:34

Utterly dreadful.

KatAndKit · 05/04/2012 19:41

Bloody hell that is appalling. How is it that most of the world, including me, is unaware of this? That is shocking. Why is the international community not doing anything about it? This has upset me very much.

SardineQueen · 05/04/2012 20:22

The reason for my short response is that I think there is slavery in many otherr parts of the world, but that it is much more hidden or called something different or explained away as "tradition" and so on.

I suspect that as appalling as this is there are other countries with a similar % of people living as slaves in all but name.

I don't really know what to say - but want to thank you for posting and hope many more people will read.... I doubt though that it will generate even 10% of the number of posts discussing why we wouldn't like to have pretty friends (or would as the case may be)

maristella · 05/04/2012 21:54

Thank you for the link.... What a shockingly awful story, situation, affliction? I'm a bit speechless. It's really got me thinking, and I'm struggling to articulate

tralalala · 05/04/2012 22:10

Why is nothing being done?

sairygamp · 05/04/2012 22:14

Utterly awful. I have ensured my friends know about this

mamalovesmojitos · 05/04/2012 22:27

Thanks for posting this. Its harrowing just to read and I have no way of understanding what these people are going through. It is incomprehensible. It is a nightmare. I'm lost for words, sorry.
