Female Chauvinist Pigs by Ariel Levy

"In an ideal world, this book would be compulsory reading in schools, a desperately needed antidote to the notion, held by young (and old enough to know better) women, that being a feminist means growing your armpit hair and never having fun, and that to be a truly empowered modern woman today you need to look like a doll and be good at oral sex."

I'm also reading Striptease Culture which is along the same lines thoug more media based.

This just depresses me, this 'empowerment' and 'girl power' being interpreted as laddete pro porn culture thing.

Two great books out though. Troops are rallying!! ( I should try and publish my dissertation - it's along the same lines

I'm going to place my order for these 2 today! Female chauv pigs sounds great. Hate it when young female colleagues call other women 'birds' when they are talking to men, or talk about women's bodies as if that gives them 'equality'. Yuk./

Striptease culture is a bit of a Trojan horse, seems to be arguing one thing when it's actually arguing another.

And in the same week that poor old Betty Friedan fell off her perch too...
Agree that ladette culture is dismaying and not a good way forward for women in society.
Thanks for that MT
