PC Rathband the policeman blinded by Raoul Moat found dead at home.

At the moment it is a suspected suicide but the news was only released 20 mins ago so they cant be 100% sure.

Had seen some stuff before about how much he was struggling - feeling extremely let down by the force.

Very sorry to see this news.

My heart sunk when I saw this - how bloody tragic! Sympathy to all he leaves behind.

That is tragic, a long drawn out tragedy starting the day he was shot.

What a brave family they have all been, coping with this, and my heart goes out to them today.

First thing I heard when I put the radio on this morning fro 6.30 news - just let out a 'oh no' , my DS who was in bed with me asked what was wrong .

The whole thing is so sad and he was so much an innocent victim along with all the others.

I hope his Police Force take a good look at themselves and see if they gave him sufficient support .

He was a brave man and my sincere condolences go to his family .

RIP. He must have been through unimaginably dark times because of what Moat did.

But since the shooting, he did remarkable things too. He set up the Blue Lamp charity which makes grants to members of the emergency services injured carrying out their duties.

I agree with Avantia. I think I remember reading he was unhappy with the level of support from his force.
His marriage had fallen apart too.

I'd also question why this information has been put out so quickly.

It's like when Philip Olds was shot and paralysed many years ago.

I should imagine that yesterday's discovery of his body was released today because it was already widely known locally.

So very sad, a needless waste of life - he was sat unarmed in his car, just doing his job

For all the awards that were lauded on him, behind closed doors it was obviously a battle for him and his family to come to terms with what happened.

Afraid I read it in the Mail & it seems that there was little/no help for him.

And that he should have paid himself for an op-that´s deplorable if correct.

Anyone who thought shooting Raoul Moat was in any way wrong should now hang their head in shame, vermin pure vermin who has ruined so many lives

Poor poor man, left utterly tortured by what happened to him. How awful that in the end he felt there was no other way out.

Such a tragedy. I'm from the area PC Rathbands from & the community is devastated. So sad he didn't seem to get the help he badly deserved & it tore him & his family apart. Sickens me that even from beyond the grave, that bastard got what he wanted, a policeman to die . RIP
