Here

The decision to have an abortion is a difficult one for anyone to make but to base the decision on gender is deeply saddening.

The limit is already higher when there is a life limiting illness present, or if the child is shown to have disabilities. Isn't it? Confused

I didn't think so, I may be wrong though.

Elliemay- there is a clause within the abortions act that allows for termination up until birth for conditions that are incompatible with life.

It is my own opinion that terminations for social reasons are wrong. Medical reasons I can just about get my head around. I also believe that gender scans should also not be allowed.

Already in some places around the world, the birth of girls is becoming so rare that boys are outnumbering them significantly. In India, for example, last years census showed there were 7.1 million fewer girls under the age of 6 years than there were boys.

It's ruddy depressing that women are being co-erced or conditioned into seeking abortions because they are carrying the 'wrong' gender.

We don't need any new laws on this - clinics and doctors just need to obey the laws we already have, which specify that gender selection is not a valid reason for abortion. Yes, it is possible to get round that by using the mental health argument - but guidance and regulation from the GMC should make it clear that gender selection is illegal and any surgeon operating for that reason will be struck off.
