Incapacity Benefit

Do you think the reforms are enough? I'd just like to know what others think.

I know some people on incapacity benefit who really are taking the mick and some who should be entitled and are not getting what they need. I do hope they look into the Motability scheme as well.

More money for those who are in need and getting those who use it as an excuse not to work into work sounds good in theory. In practise though, this is Britain after all, screw ups will be commonplace. First thing is to change the name as to say someone is incapable sounds insulting.

Discuss, or ignore, I am killing threads without mercy tonight, might as well make it my own!

Pixel, that is shocking. The member of staff should be fired for advice like that. Encouraging young girls to go get pregnant?!

I have a question. If you are on incapacity benefit and say you are single with no kids, do you get a house to live in too?

No, you don't.

Lots of people on IB can't hold down a fulltime job, fair enough. They could do part-time which would be better all round in terms of self-esteem and maybe a bit of tax in the governments coffers. The problem being that losing IB also means losing loads of add-ons, like help with council tax and the like making it not worthwhile to consider less than full-time hours.

I have a friend who was brain-damaged as a child. There are many tasks he can't do for himself and he needs help with managing his money etc as it is all a mystery to him. He does however manage to hold down a full-time job (portering at the hospital)as that is the way he was brought up. His mum worked until she was nearly 70 (his dad had parkinsons)and I really don't think it crossed any of their minds that he could go on benefits.

The job will also be good for him though Pixel - getting him out, meeting people and keeping fit too.

when peter wa sliving alone on IB (not dla), he didnt get full help with council tax or rent. if he'd been in IS he'd had got his rent and council tax paid.
