Barbaric treatment of rape victim by judge

Becoming a bit of a pattern isn't it, to jail women for being frightened of their rapists. It never ceases to amaze me how much the court system, and judges in particular, hate women.

I don't know enough about the situation in Ireland to say if this is typical of what happens in that country. It does say in the article that there is a higher rate of case collapse there than there is in UK.

I just don't know what to say. That is unbearably awful.

How on earth can a judge be allowed to display such foul attitude towards any woman, let alone one who has been raped. The poor woman must have been in pieces.

Surely the judge should be sanctioned for that kind of treatment?

They put her in prison after she attempted suicide.

Presumably that was just another way for the manipulative lying bitch to get out of testifying

They pretty much took her from hospital to prison. And that fucker Carney is prepared to leave her in prison for months until a new trial?

I wonder whether an Irish woman would be treated so inhumanely. The fact that she is from eastern Europe might make her even less human than a nice Irish girl in this bastard's eyes.

The judge said it was 'her fault' if she spends a lot of time in prison. Barbaric.

Something similar happened in the UK recently, and due to outcry new guidance was issued to people involved in criminal justice system in how they handle rape complainants.

We can only hope that there is a huge outcry in Ireland and they react. That judge needs to be hauled over the coals.

There are quite a few Irish MNers maybe some of them will see this and write to teh appropriate body to complain. It is worth doing.

OP maybe you could get MN to put (Ireland) or something in the title which will make Irish MNers more likely to click the link - they are the ones in a position to try and do something.

If what's reported is accurate it's the bloody judge who's needing jailed!

Where is her partner? There were two people who were held and assaulted - how has it gone so wrong?

It's just awful. That poor woman, pregnant, gang raped, attempted suicide and now in prison. It's like something out of the dark ages.
