Just heard on the radio that Stephen Hester has decided not to take his bonus. Too right! He should never have been offered it, the Renumeration Committee should never have approved it and he shouldn't have accepted it to being with.

Midnight, I agree with you about doing the right thing and I can even agree that under the circumstances I think Hester did do the right thing in turning it down.

What would have been wrong is for the govt to go back on it's word, which thankfully it didn't. That would have sent all the wrong signals out.

I just we didn't vilify the very people we need to succeed in the world for being erm...successful. We can live without the chavs and the dole cheats. Yet for some reason it's politically incorrect to berate them. Yet a guy who has worked hard, been lucky and paid a lot (and paying a lot in taxes....that's wrong.

Slug, that's my point. You are being told now which whilst I understand you feel it's unfair (my company has done the same less pension more working thing too), so at least you can adjust your behaviour and make decisions accordingly. But with Hester, he's met his objectives so that's why it's wrong to now say "No we're not giving it to you". So my point was that the same comparison for you would be to actually retire and THEN get told you aren't getting the public sector pension which was promised.
