Shock

they interviewed the Samoan High Commissioner at lunchtime, he was very jolly about it

\link{http://travel.aol.co.uk/2011/12/29/samoa-to-miss-30-december-as-it-crosses-international-dateline/\it does make much more sense for them to be linked in to Aus time}. Weird, though

It IS my bday on 30 Dec! Does that mean I can choose another date for my birthday then? I think I will pick 30 July-always fancied having a summer bday!

well in this case it's only if you live in Samoa that you lose the day, crazyforbaby

but feel free to have another birthday anyway Grin (my cousin was born on Christmas Day & for his entire childhood celebrated his birthday in August!)

It's not the same as leap year because everyone does that at the same time, the Samoans are the only ones losing the day this time. It makes perfect sense but is just so weird that almost a whole day is being lost! There are 775 people apparently who won't get a birthday, if that were my 8 yr dd she wouldn't be happy Smile
