Can't stop thinking about Gary Speed...

That's it really, he was a hero of mine when he was at Leeds, followed his career... but could not stop welling up over it all today.It's so shocking, so sudden and so so tragic. He and a few others came to the school I was teaching at to demonstrate ball skills, he was so lovely. Am I the only one feeling like this? Seems bonkers to feel so saddened when I didn't really even know him.

I agree with you both. I am really saddened by this. Did not know Gary Speed at all but feel affected by his death and the manner of his death.

I don't even follow football or anything like that.
Gary Speed lives in my area and that makes it seem even more real somehow.
Have been in a depressed low mood ever since it happened.

I've been thinking about it too, even though I don't follow football and hadn't even heard of him before this sad news. It sounds as though he was a lovely man. I'm sorry that he was evidently so unhappy. It is so awful when somebody dies in that way, and I feel for his friends and relatives, as well as for him, because of the uniquely devastating aftermath for those who are left behind after a suicide.

terrible isn't it Cheerycherry. I'm staying round a good friends of mine at the mo who was a good friend of GS they played together for wales. He is absolutly mortified. Its scary how someone can be that low and nobody knows and they feel they can't turn to anyone.

I really feel sorry for GS wife Louise who found him but I am thankful it wasn't one of his sons. I see the vultures that are the press have started already though they are saying the reason he done it was because they were going to do an expose saying that he was gay. the press really make my blood boil they guys not even cold yet and they are starting already.

tjacksonpfc - that is terrible and I hope to God is not true - the gutter press need sacking/punishing if that is what caused him to take his own life.
Yes, his poor wife and boys, and it is just something that the whole family will never recover from.
Do we know when the funeral will be? It will be a huge affair, and totally depressing.

I feel so sorry for his poor family, what they must be feeling.

They opened and adjourned his inquest today.

I am so stunned by this, I cannot get over the amount of people who have said that he seemed fine, was always happy, lit up a room when he walked in.

I guess it's that if you have 'demons', whatever they may be, it can sometimes be very hard to escape them.

I hope he is at peace now.

Me too I am a huge football fan although he never played for my favourite team but he always seemed such a professional.

So young, so tragic that he felt this was the only option left to him - his career was on the rise so why?? I think that is the hardest thing to get my head round - why?

no news on funeral yet bidy hasn't yet been released. the police want some more details of his final hours for the coriner.

I just hope if Louise and the family want a private funeral then people respect that.

Initials are GH - he was a similar age to GS.

im at no not GH but begins with G lol hang on ill ask if he knows.

Well he was a very obscure Welsh footballer that very few people have heard of - just checked on Wikipedia though and he is also 42 so am guessing he would have played with/against GS quite a bit.

Sorry you feel so sad . I felt just the same over David Kelly - didn't know him at all (obviously) but somehow he reminded me of my dad and I was really, really upset by it. The whole thing is just tragic.

By chance, I'm working away from home in Cardiff at the moment and where I'm staying is just over the road from the Millennium Stadium. As I walked past there this morning there were a load of footie flags tied to the gate as a tribute to Gary Speed - he obviously meant a lot to a lot of people. Reading some of those messages it's clear that he gave many thousands of fans a great deal of joy, and to be held in such high regard, both as a player and as a man, by so many people, must be a source of comfort to his friends and family in such difficult times.

Although he never played for my team, I hope you'll share my sentiment and agree that; Gary Speed, You'll Never Walk Alone.

I didn't know who Gary Speed was as I really do not like sport but i think about Angie Dowds the personal trainer from Biggest Loser. Angie threw herself from Beachy Head cliffs :(

I thought she was fab, i was so still am.
