Try this

LIZ JONES MOANS: Maternity leave? It's just another name for a holiday

I just don't understand the lack of work ethic in young women today.

I can see LJ's point - why get paid for something you choose to do? - why should the state pay for anyone ( mother or father ) to take 6 months off?
Having a baby is a lifestyle choice and people have to start realising that the free ride is over. Look at Greece!

dreamingofsun · 11/11/2011 08:49

mine was. best time of my life and far more dossy than trying to balance work and bring up children - even with 3. Unfortunately my husband wouldn't let me have any more.

EightiesChick · 11/11/2011 08:58

rycooler because those babies grow up to pay for Liz Jones's pension, healthcare etc, and to contribute to society?

There's a lot that could be said about this, but that's exactly what the Mail want. Going to ignore this professional misogynistic trolling (meaning the LJ column).

She was always going to find it tough to follow last weeks piece on stealing sperm.

Won't comment more on it as haven't read through on link

KatAndKit · 12/11/2011 14:04

Liz is just jealous. She has missed out on her 9 month maternity "holiday" as her "spermjacking" attempt failed.

Why her drivel is actually published is beyond me.

Thumbwitch · 12/11/2011 14:07

Agree with K&K - except it's kind of obvious why they publish her drivel, because people will then talk about it, even in terms of hatred; and they'll get more hits on their site, or more people reading their noxious rag. :(

Still think they should be burning the Daily Fail in the streets, tbh.

Is Greece in trouble because they had particularly generous maternity leave? Confused

I thought the main problem with Greece was that they couldn't get the tax payers to pay for services needed. And that they were simply very badly managed. The countries that do have well thought out systems for providing for such services as are seen to benefit the whole of society seem to do rather well at the moment.

AbsofCroissant · 14/11/2011 11:45

Hm. From what I can gather in that article, she's upset because:

  • someone is on maternity leave
  • her lawyer was ill and couldn't respond within three seconds to her request
  • the female journalist didn't know the exact reasons for Liz leaving being fired (which, IMO isn't really a reason to call someone stupid)
  • the young girl implied that you need a life outside work. As Liz doesn't have one (even her marriage was turned into column fodder) she's bound to get uppity

Therefore all girls under the age of menopause (I have a feeling Liz is starting to get hot flushes) has no work ethic. Generalise much Liz?

NormanTebbit · 14/11/2011 11:48

I think generous maternity leave is a good thing. I never had any, well not paid anyway, but I think it probably improves employee retention, makes for happier workforce etc etc

Business invests and trains a person, a generoud maternity leave is an investment in that person. It makes for a happier society

TwoIfBySea · 14/11/2011 12:02

I love this, never heard of the woman before MN and now...every "article" gets more and more bitter.

From what I can fathom it isn't so much about maternity but a dislike of anyone younger than her. Sorry, any woman younger than her.

That's a lot of women.

Hehe.

CrosswordAddict · 20/11/2011 19:05

I stopped reading Mail on Sunday because of Liz Jones - I haven't had any withdrawal symptoms so far. Grin

wordfactory · 21/11/2011 10:05

There is a discussion to be had about ML and small businesses etc but this aint it.

ssd · 21/11/2011 17:52

LJ does seem a bit mad someitmes, but between the bitterness and the self pity sometimes she does have a point

I had 14 weeks maternity leave with my kids and it didnt kill any of us

what is it now? 6 months to a year off?

that seems exessive, no wonder it looks like a big long holiday to the childless

ThePathanKhansWitch · 21/11/2011 17:55

It's a valid point of view i suppose, not one i agree with, however it does sound bitter and twisted coming from Liz.

kelly2000 · 22/11/2011 00:14

rycooler,
The countries where companies have the best parental leave are actually in Scandanavia and their economies are doing much better than the rest of Europe, Germany perhaps excepted. In Denmark parental leave is actually very little from the state, but most companies choose to offer longer parental leave, its the best way to get the best candidates. My company gave anyone who had been there for two years a year of fully paid parental leave (men and women) per birth. It ensured that people would stay for a few years, and got them very good candidates. It is also a really good incentive in countries where income tax can be quite high for high earners. If you give someone a big bonus, increase their wages to attract them they could end up in the top tax bracket and so not be much better off, but if you give them generous parental leave allowances it makes a huge financial difference to them, but it of course does not change their tax status.

Indaba · 27/11/2011 22:26

Here is "the thing"

The more we raise LZ and her appalling opinions on MN, the more she gets paid and the more her job gets secured.

Ignore her and her idiotic views. The DM loves the fact she gets raised on here. We are adding to her goggle scores which directly relates to her tenure and wages.

Damm....now I have just done it Grin
