never done this before! but was just eating lunch with dd1 who's 4 and we had the tv on in the kitchen. the local news bit came on (midlands today) after the news at one and featured an ex-prostitute who now runs a duck farm - so far, so local.... and then they proceeded to show all of her gear used when she was a 'madam' - whips and all. then even worse showed a photo of her leading a bloke dressed in full 'gimp' costume on a lead!!!... followed by a shot of some dreadful piece of 'furniture' which she described as being for when her clients wanted to be bent over it and whipped!!!!

cue dd2: mummy, why's that man on a lead? why is he wearing a mask? is the lady going to hit him?

can't believe this passes as suitable for daytime consumption? am i being a bit mrs-kiss-me-arse about it?

I've just splattered coffee on my keyboard! NO it's not suitable daytime viewing - sounds like a typical surreal regional 'news' item though!

Blimey!
Things are hotting up in Brum!
(I agree btw-completely inappropriate)

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 09/12/2005 14:22

did u call bbc??

How discusting how on earth is worthwhile news story anyway??

TherewasnoMOOMattheINn · 09/12/2005 14:36

rang the bbc complaints line which is national. i said that if it isn't pulled from the early evening news i'd take it further. the operator told me it would probably only be pulled if there are a number of complaints and the decision rested with the local news team, but he did say he'd log it as a 'very strong' complaint. i'll see if there's a link on the local bbc webpages.

really inappropriate. I've been shocked at some of the adverts on in the morning. there was one a while ago for shaving cream or deoderant something like that, and there's a woman in a towel when the man is coming out of the shower. she's all messy hair and come and get me now eyes. then she drops the towel and walks off. FFS, its 8am in the morning.

update: watched evening news to see if it was still on - it was, but they'd edited out all images of the gimp! still had her describing her whipping stool though... nick owen presents this prog and he looked very excited throughout [shudder]. might still write anyway

why didn't you turn it off?

TherewasnoMOOMattheINn · 09/12/2005 22:12

when? at lunchtime? it was only on for 2 mins and all the worst images were on straight away. it started off innocuously with shots of ducks in a pond then went straight to the bondage gear with no warning!

OP posts:
TherewasnoMOOMattheINn · 09/12/2005 22:16

and anyway thats not the point - this was at lunchtime! i complained because it clearly shouldnt be on in the 1st place

good for you complaining!
Yes, we should have the freedom to switch on the tv during the day without having that in our homes.

But presumably the journalists' freedom to broadcast filth counts for more.

thecattleareALOHing · 09/12/2005 22:51

I'm glad you complained. Ds already listens to the news on the radio and I would hate for him to see something like this. totally unsuitable IMO.
