I don't normally get involved in chat rooms, but I thought I would just pop in with a quick message here.
I am the website designer that Helen at UKparents originally came to way back in 1998.
She was actually a friend of some friends and we got on like a house on fire. Anyway, she asked then if I could help her with the development of a book and website that could collect hints and tips from parents about their trials and tribulations of raising children and childbirth. Despite being a bloke with no children to my name, I found the idea interesting and agreed.
The idea behind collecting this information was so that Helen could fulfil her ambition of becoming an author and I designed a logo for her book-to-be called 'so now you tell me!' We spent ages on the site and to be honest it got a little out of hand (!)
It went from 'so now you tell me!' to something a little more generic 'ukmums' and from there to 'ukparents'.
A couple of years or so down the line, we went our different ways on the project as it had expanded beyond the all belief and had turned into a full time job.
Now I understand that people are going to talk, but I have to say, its a little unfair for anyone to start accusing Helen of copying this book idea. She (and I for that matter) has put a great deal of effort into the idea and I feel the results speak for themselves, with UKparents being a fantastic resource for anyone who wants or has children.
Anyway, time to get off my soapbox and leave you all in peace.
P.S. if you want take a look at the original site ( So now you tell me!
