Apparently Rebekah Brooks will be arrested either late this afternoon/evening or tomorrow morning.

Even, Charlie was spot-on, wasn't he? Grin

"Still, the Addams Family reference will have been well-considered because James knows a thing or two about horror households: he's the son of Rupert Murdoch, which makes him the closest thing the media has to Damien from The Omen.

That's a fatuous comparison, obviously. Damien Thorn, offspring of Satan, was educated at Yale before inheriting a global business conglomerate at a shockingly young age and using it to hypnotise millions in a demonic bid to hasten Armageddon. James Murdoch's story is quite different. He went to Harvard"

You've got to love Charlie Brooker haven't you? :o

I loooove Charlie Brooker. His response to Jan Moir's Stephen Gately assassination was right up there in my all time top ten. Thanks for the link Puffin.

He is a star.

CinnabarRed · 08/07/2011 13:01

Amazing that Charlie Brooker wrote that opinion piece in September 2009. Talk about prescentient!

Smellslikecatpee · 08/07/2011 13:05

CinnabarRed got a link?

headfairy · 08/07/2011 13:05

but this whole NoTW thing has been rumbling on for years Cinnebar... as far back as the mid 90s. I think far more people in Fleet Street knew about this than we give credit for.

It's linked to in EvenLessNarkyPuffin's post of 12:48. She deserves the credit for finding it!

Headfairy - sorry, was being sarcastic. Guess it didn't come across Blush.

headfairy · 08/07/2011 13:45

Ta kindly, missed it, that the problem with trying to work and MN working just gets in the way Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 08/07/2011 14:28

The arrest will be by appt at a police station rather than been dragged off the street but it will happen.

smallwhitecat I've never said I think DC should call for RB's arrest. He said in his press conference that if he was in Rupert Murdoch's position he would have accepted her resignation. You can take it at face value, or read it as a distancing exercise.

I wouldn't want to live in a country when the prime minister can remove a chief executive of a private company at will either.

OP posts:
donnie · 08/07/2011 14:36

smallwhitecat: it would seem that although the government cannot control news intl, the latter almost certainly wields enormous power over the former.

I also despair. Perhaps it is true and people really do get the government - and the media - they deserve.

Looks like allegations now that a NI executive deleted millions of emails in their archive as recently as this January, potentially hampering the police investigation. Media Guardian has the story.

headfairy · 08/07/2011 14:55

but smallwhitecat I didn't ask DC to say that in the press conference.... his choice of words. He obviously felt compelled to say those things in response to the public mood. Nothing more sinister than that.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 08/07/2011 17:23

SmallWhiteCat, it's because he's desperate to distance himself from RB. They are friends. They (with their other halves) spend New Years together etc. And he hired Coulson despite the fact that he came straight from resigning as editor of TNOTW over phone hacking.
