Saw this on MSN this morning and the spelling mistake jumped out at me immediately.

It's such a pity, a 30K a year public school education and unable to spell a simple word. And now immortalised in the museum at Wimbledon.

I always get snide and petty wrong.

It's such a pity that people pick up on such a tiny thing and make it out to be more. It was a mistake. She's human. At least she wrote to say thank you.

I think that if that is all some some people have to worry about then i'd like their life.

I am sure she can spell "quiet" but just made an error when she wrote it. Happens to everyone sometimes. She should have proof-read the letter before sending it though.

Nice that she wrote a thank you note though- not many people do take the time or trouble these days.

Well yeah, guess it's not a big deal . I missed that this was an old one, not one written after her marriage. I suppose she'll be more careful now, or there'll be someone going over her letters before it's sent out.

Sometimes I appreciate being dyslexic. It means that I fail to notice other peoples' spelling errors so have one less thing to be bothered about.

May I point out that you have spelt her name incorrectly? It's catherine not Kate, and I think that's worse than making a simple spelling mistake.

It's the written equivalent of a typo really, rather than a spelling mistake.

Yes she should have proof-read it, but given that she wrote it 3 years ago and didn't for a minute imagine it would end up being preserved for history I doubt she gave it too much thought.

She could presumerably, have refused to have it displayed due to a mistake reversing an e and a t.

Instead she allowed it to be displayed tiny mistake and all, so that the people who arranged the day out for her get the public recognition they deserve.

I think it's funny that if you pronounce "quiet" (ie the word she meant to write) with a very posh accent, it sounds like "quite"....her poshness caught her out! She wrote it quickly as she pronounces it without thinking of the meaning!
