Bank Shares Anyone?

Bank share distribution proposal

Not sure it'll ever get off the ground. Gloomy mutterings about the amount of admin involved already. But what an interesting idea to parcel up all the RBS/Lloyds shares bought by HMGov in '08, give them out to everyone on the electoral roll (they are ours, after all), and then let us, rather than the Treasury, keep any profits when we sell them. Watch this space...

Some people may not be income taxpayers but there are indirect taxes. Everyone stumps up for VAT, for example. Does naturalisation mean you're now entitled to vote midoriway?

I agree that all residents should benefit. Does it include the local election register, because that includes all residents iirc.

Although I feel children should benefit from this too, because it seems to be largely their services that are being cut to fund these banks. Perhaps all children should get them too, in trust?

Yes, I can vote. Commonwealth citizens have always been able to vote if the are in the UK, bit of an old colonial hangover, but other citizens if not also British, no.

HHLimbo, the local electoral roll is not a list of all residents, just those that can vote.

I am not on the electoral Roll.
I am not entitled to Vote.
Naturalisation would cost me over £800
I have paid taxes for over 20 years

This is still a dumb idea though
