Footballer named by LibDem MP

I am sure most people are aware of the so called "gagging order" on the footballer allegedly involved in some affair. Apparently the name has been on Twitter but John Hemming Lib Dem MP for Yardley, Birmingham named the footballer in the House of Commons today. However the political correspondent for the BBC spoke in relation to this revelation said "John Hemming has named the footballer but I cannot find anyone in this building who believes that the ancient act of parliamentary privilege was designed for naming a footballer in defiance of the highest Court in the Land.

JH is a well known poster on MN usually about adoption and posts wholly inaccurate posts, based on some personal axe to grind. He has been criticised by a high court judge Wall LJ in a judgment a year or so ago, which was highly critical. Seems he has opened his mouth again and so proving that he cares little for defying the highest court in the land.

I think this is highly irresponsible behaviour for an elected MP and cannot understan why Nick Clegg is not concerned that JH is bringing the party into disrepute.

It's worrying that an MP is conniving with the newspapers this way. The phone-tapping scandal is rumbling on unresolved - proving that they have scant regard for privacy at the best of times. And the latest episode is nothing more than a blatant attempt to smash all concept of privacy so that they can boost their circulations with any type of irrelevant tittle-tattle they can lay their hands on. They're dressing it up as some noble crusade for freedom of speech and it's sad that an MP can't see through it for what it is.

Cognito - I don't know much about JH and his motives in this. It certainly doesn't seem to me to be a 'noble crusade for press freedom'.

But what has been happening on Twitter and the rest of the Internet does make a mockery of our current injunction laws.

What happened on Twitter has been described as the UK's biggest ever case of civil disobedience. With the injunction still in place, by now 100,000's of people are in contempt of court. We are facing a constitutional crisis because the law is not doing what it's supposed to.

If JH was just attempting to highlight this - then it might well be a valid use of parliamentary privilege.

One possible outcome could be that future injunctions will only apply to print and broadcast press with social media and blogs exempt. If the press have been driving this - then that would be a spectacular home goal.Smile.

Nana, there's another much longer thread from yesterday about Our Man In The House Grin

NanaNina · 24/05/2011 20:25

Thanks Bucharest. IloveTiff - yes "our" JH is still alive and well and posting rubbish on MN. However he has posted lately on the Adoption thread and had got his come uppance from adoptive parents as you can imagine. They also found Wall LJ's judgement of him, severely criticising him, the fact that he put himself forward as "love rat of the year" - a rather plump love rat as I noticed on TV last night! He was making his usual nonsensical statements and I posed 6 questions to him that I knew he hadn't a hope in hell of answering - and for the first time ever - he sloped off. Where there's life there's hope.

There is someone else calling himself (whowasthatguy) on the adoption threads, spouting the same nonsense as JH and we did wonder if they were one and the same, but who knows or cares really. Find it hard to believe there are 2 unhinged blokes out there, on the issue of adoption. Somehome JH won't be back on the adoption threads.
