Absolutely horrible news.

i went to send a link to this several hours ago, but just couldn't bring myself

NI is in shock. Omagh again, and on a Saturday afternoon. Several 1000 people had just ran past where Constable Kerr was murdered. It was the Annual Half Marathon and Fun Run yesterday.

RIP Ronan.

Awful news. My heart goes out to his family.

jennymac · 03/04/2011 14:28

Terrible. My brother lives in the park where it happened and he was one of the first on the scene. He was in his back garden with his wife and kids when they heard the explosion. They thought it was a gas explosion and ran out and saw the poor man in the car. Unfortunately his kids also saw it before they managed to get them back in the house - my nephew couldn't sleep last night. Hopefully these scumbags will get caught and soon.

I am gutted

When will it ever end??!!

He gave his life for a better future, only 25!! Sad

My deepest sympathy to the family

TryLikingClarity · 05/04/2011 20:49

Am curious to know what conculainey said that was deleted by MN. Confused

Surely any right thinking person would only be saying something sympathetic to Ronan's family and NI at large. Anything else is just wrong at this time.

Jenny I'm really sad to read that about your family witnessing something so horrible.

It brings back some awful memories for my own family too. Is all terrible, but I'm heartened to hear how dignified Mrs Kerr has been.

RIP.

Likewise I would also like to know why my post was removed, perhaps admin could inform me of the reason?

caramelwaffle · 06/04/2011 11:13

My thoughts and prayers to his family x

Kallista · 06/04/2011 21:19

A senseless cowardly murder of a young man just because he was a policeman. I hope those responsible are caught before they kill anyone else and devastate another family.

GrimmaTheNome · 06/04/2011 21:30

It seems to have backfired on the terrorists - all sides seem to be uniting in condemning this cowardly and senseless murder.

timeforachangearooney · 06/04/2011 22:51

They have now arrested someone in scotland

Such a desperately sad case Sad

Incredible to see the GAA and PNSI together at the funeral - I think Ronan Kerr is a real inspiration and that sight is testament to that.

Terribly, terribly sad to see a young man lose his life like this
Poor family Sad

timeforachangearooney · 09/04/2011 09:23

there is now a 3rd person arrested

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-13020381

the GAA and PSNI together will go down in history surelynotnormal

i don't think it has backfired on the dissidents though - they really don't care what everyone thinks. They left a bomb in a van on the main Belfat to Newry road yesterday. 100's if not 1000's would have driven past here. callous disregard for life

it makes you wonder who else is seem as a "legit" target

caramelwaffle · 09/04/2011 10:13

It all seems to be escalating at a worrying rate.

timeforachangearooney · 09/04/2011 15:16

just been in omagh shopping today with the children and we were stopped by an armed police man.

he was very friendly re cars in front and checking id and he actually waved me on ( i suppose driving a car filled with children and teddy bears gave me a free pass )

but if he had have stopped me i would have burst into tears. i can't believe we have gone back to this. my eldest dc wanted to know why he was there, etc and i just couldn't answer him because of the lump in my throat

my earliest childhood memory is being in the car and being told that if daddy ever shouts "get down" i have to curl into a ball on the floor of the car (no car seats in those days) and that someone would come and get me (but i wasn't too worry if it wasn't daddy :( )

we can't bring our children up in this sort of society

surelynotnormal · 09/04/2011 15:22

Sad timeforachangearooney.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/04/2011 15:27

Who wants to go back to all this? I want my DD to learn it as history and not the present.

Abr1de · 09/04/2011 15:34

So depressing to see it happening. It's not just this murder, either. It's been rumbling away for at least a year.

SilverScarf · 09/04/2011 15:46

DH just told me there was a bomb in Newry, it's awful to think of what might have happened. It has been slowly building up.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/04/2011 20:37

Saw on the news earlier that the police closed the A1 when the bomb was found. Some people were moving the cones and ignoring the closure. Shock

SilverScarf · 09/04/2011 21:32

Some people are seriously lacking in the upstairs department.

ginmakesitallok · 09/04/2011 21:37

So sad to see this happening. I'm Northern Irish - but have lived in Scotland for 18 years. What I find particularly sad is that we'er heading home next week and for the first time ever I'm feeling a bit scared about bringing my children over. Rationally I know that there's ntohing to worry about, and that by worrying the terrorists are getting the response they want - but I can't help it. Sad

conculainey · 10/04/2011 18:19

Its not uncommon for the terrorists to kick off when there is an election on the horizon, they use the same tactics every time to keep people indoors and prevent them from voting. Thankfully the much larger bomb that was planted in London/derry a couple of days before Ronan was murdered was discovered and defused (110lb beer keg bomb) as this would have caused carnage and massive damage in the busy built up area that is was planted in.
