What a sick woman. My Reception class teacher used to do stuff like this (cruel, demeaning punishments for ordinary childhood stuff I mean), 36 years ago! I knew then that she was a witch!

God, I'm Steaming mad! I can't understand why the TAs took so long to speak out about this! Also, surely if she had such a bad attitude towards children other members of staff would have noticed it and said something?

This is such a disgrace. Sad Angry

I read that with an open mouth. How can she live with her actions? My DH is a teacher, admiteddly of older children but he wouldn't dream of doing something like that. The teacher is clearly a loon.

Those poor children :( if it's true then what a bitch.

Yes it sounds horrible, but before we all pile in let's remember this is a tabloid newspaper report and no investigation has taken place yet. Accusations are quite often made against teachers and others who work with children which are not entirely true.

According to the Guardian and the Mail, she has now been found guilty and struck off the teaching register for two years. Is she really going to be fit to return to teaching after a hiatus of two years?

GUardian report

If a teacher was found to have done this to my child - sprayed air freshener on them, dunked their hands in disinfectant and referred to them as a 'black bastard' I would call the police.

Shocking, and I am aghast that it went on so long unreported.

mammamia25 · 16/02/2011 10:50

No-one will employ her in teaching again with this on her record.

The comments on the Daily Mail story tend towards the view that she was entirely justified, doing the kids a favour and that the verdict is political-correctness gone mad.
