Brother of Harry Potter Actress Jailed for Assault

The brother of a young actress who appeared in the Harry Potter films has been jailed for assaulting her.

Afshan Azad, who plays Padma Patil, was attacked by her brother after he overheard her talking to her Hindu boyfriend.
She was beaten over the head, grabbed by the hair and throttled.

Her brother called her a slag and her mother labeled her a "prostitute". She was also told "marry a Muslim or you die"

I applaud her for having the bravery to escape her home and report this horrific crime, but am saddened to read that she asked the judge not to jail her idiot brother.

this is a cultural problem though for many muslims from countries like Pakistan/Bangladesh. I've had my eyes opened a bit by my friend (family originally from Pakistan) who thought herself this was the muslim way when she saw her father hit her mother, when she put up with her husband hitting her (arranged marriage to her cousin when she was 8) and her family expecting it her to accept it and telling her to be a good wife. She realised it was cultural and not muslim when she started reading the Koran and realised the way she had been conditioned to behave and accept was cultural and not what her religion taught. Dv happens everywhere but we now encourage the victim to leave, report it - the family is not usually complicit in it.

V. interesting as I'm married to man and his culture has exactly the same values as you state - he's a european and not muslim.

So it's not that exclusive then.

I'm outraged that he only got 6 months.

I think he should have got more, he's a very dangerous man.
