GP surgeries contacting pg women about Swine Flu?

Is it just me (and every pregnant woman I've spoken to in the past month) who has not been contacted by my GP surgery nor midwife team about getting the seasonal flu vaccination?

It's driving me mad that, every time the lack of a campaign comes up on national news, there is a health professional saying that those at risk (i.e. pregnant women) have been contacted and we're making the decision not to get the vaccine?

If you are pg, have you been contacted?

well not only does my GP not have any, but the pharmacies they told us to buy it from don't have any either Hmm what's going on??? if uptake was down then shouldn't there be a surplus? all v fishy!

does look like there is a shortage and the surgeries are being blamed for not ordering enough supplies:

Flu: vulnerable patients 'being turned away from GP surgeries' amid vaccine shortage

Seona1973 · 01/01/2011 20:39

p.s. they are not offering it to healthy under 5's this year (ds had the jab last year when he was 3)

LadyBubbaAndBump · 01/01/2011 21:55

More would be turned away if more were contacted - I understand there's a shortage, but don't come on the news and bleat about how 'vulnerable' people are not coming forward to take up the vaccination despite being contacted, when it's just not true!

I had a growth scan on Friday and there are at least now signs up all over the antenatal unit about how the flu jab is recommended for alk pregnant women and you should contact your GP. Those definitely weren't there three weeks ago when I was last in.

Maybe they've read this thread ProfessorLayton

I am 38 weeks, and asthmatic. No info from dotors, only asked at my last A/N as I had seen a report on the news saying pregnant people need to be vaccinated. That was 21st Dec, Nurse at A/N gave me jab. Reading this thread though...surely my DS2 who has chronic asthma should have the flu jab (he's always had an invitation letter in previous years Hmm), and so should my DD who has a cardiac problem, and has always had an invitation letter in previous years. Wonder why none of us have had an invite letter this year?

Methinks I must harass ring GP on Tuesday and insist that they get the jab too!

I am 30 weeks pregnant but was not contacted, I took the advice on the NHS website & asked my doctor for one myself which she completely agreed was a good idea.

Crystylline · 08/01/2011 17:36

i wasn't contacted either. when i rang the surgery, they said they'd run out.

they've now got a stock, but according to the receptionist... she's not sure if i'm in a priority group... of course not, i'm just pregnant! grr...

waiting...

still, at least had swine flu already, so hope cna't get it twice.

I'm 25 weeks and no-one mentioned it to me. I've even seen a midwife in the last week and she didn't mention it. I contacted the GP surgery before Xmas and requested it.

Balsam · 08/01/2011 20:00

They contacted me when I was 35 weeks. Given it takes 1-2 weeks to kick in, I felt it was a bit late. But said OK, so they gave me an appointment for a week later. So that took me to 36 weeks. They then rung the day before and cancelled it as they'd 'run out'. They're going to let me know when I can rebook.

So it looks like by the time they will sort it out, it'll be too late to be worth bothering with! Pointless!

Gabrie11a · 10/01/2011 17:25

I am 25 weeks and have had no contact from my GP. I'm pretty healthy most of the time but this media hype has made us think so I spoke to my midwife this morning who said she would recommend getting the jab. So straight away I rang my surgery to be told that they've run out of the jab and put me on their waiting list. had I not rung, I doubt they would have taken the initiative themselves!
