I've passed this place and joked about working there so many times

shocking isn't it? more shocked at the name "cuddles"!

has anyone ever noticed that whenever prostitutes are mentioned or shown in a programme it's always from BIRMINGHAM!

heh... I went to Birmingham Uni, and "Cuddles" was always a standing joke (mainly because of the name, but also because one of the female students tried to infiltrate it asking for a "massage" so she could write a report on it for the student union rag - she got kicked out, so she wrote a piece saying how sexist it was instead). Think they moved premises though since then.

When we moved to Croydon, there was a baby shop named "Cuddles" and juveniles that we were, we could never walk past without having a little snigger...

we had a story recently where a bound and tied prostitute jumped from the first floor window of the brothel here

I'm originally from Birmingham and when I was doing my A'levels, girls in my class who were in the Hagley round vicinity, would be propositioned by men at 8.00 am in the morning. Mothers taking their children to school were also pestered.

Do you think that the police should prosecute the punters as well as the pimps because they are also abusing these vulnerable women and would licensed brothels clean up the industry? Obviously I'm only talking about women forced into the sex industry, not those who willingly participate.

How do you define 'forced' though Speedy? They might not be abducted and their passports taken away but many are forced through a combination of poverty and bad luck. I don't think there are very many happy hookers who'd be doing it if they had another real choice of how to live their lives.

If they licensed it and legalised it, they could tell women on the dole that they had to go and work at the local brothel or lose their JSA.

Those poor women! Honestly I think more needs to be done to these punters and pimps, especially those caught trafficking these women in - usually from Eastern Europe or Asia.

Oh being propositioned by guys in cars - I've had that experience too, lived in a house near a corner which was a regular haunt for the ladies of the night....dp used to get offers made as he was trying to park his car

and now live not far from the infamous 'cuddles'....(didn't know that was going on right on my doorstep as it were...)

In S.London, there are signs up all over the place that say Kerb Crawlers will be arressted and that cctv filming takes place.

IMO, if a women has not been forced in to prostitution, then she usually hasn't had a great life and doesn't think she can do/ is worth more.

Well, it's the inevitable result of pretending that prostitution is no different in practice, psychologically or socially, from dental nursing. There's no such thing as prostitution - there's only sex-work. And that's just as valid a choice as dental work. So of course the state reserves the right to force you to do either, because qualitatively, they're the same. Makes perfect sense, in a world where the lunatics have taken o....
