Now that is what I call good news. I hadn't heard anything and had feared the worst. I wonder what went on in the background to get them released?

My DH is miliary and has some knowledge of what went on. What Scary says is correct. And they were definitely ill advised to be sailing in that area.

fedup. I'm not questioning that the Seychelles entered the pirate hit list last autumn. I am questioning that scary said it was on their hit list from 2006. From what I recall then they didn't have the capability to go that far out back in 2006.

I can back up what's being said by Nancy and fedup.

Remember that rather large oil tanker that got hijacked the other year and was all over the news? The other captain of that, who was thankfully (for us) on leave at the time is a relative of mine. That one caught them somewhat unaware as it was a massive escalation of the pirates' operating range in an area they'd previously viewed as safe.

The couple were sailing through areas known to be at risk - my family member's comment was along the lines that they were a flipping stupid pair to be out there to be honest. They've had a lucky escape and I hope to hell they're clinging onto that fact.

Of course my family's wierd - getting to sit down and have a look at someone's photos of a pirate attack is a somewhat interesting way to spend the evening.
