Can someone please explain why this child cruelty guilty verdict didn't result in a custodial sentence

They did get a custodial but it was suspended. They probably had no previous convictions.

I mean custodial from the off. They will only actually end up in prison if they breach the terms of their suspended sentence.

You have to do a fair bit to get gaoled at the moment.

I suppose the biggest punishment is that these two will never be allowed to work with children again. Also if they ever have children of their own they will be put on the at risk register.

Prehaps nurseries having CCTV cameras is a good thing. Certainly they might have got away with their evil behaviour if there had not been CCTV cameras.

I agree they have got of very lightly. Violence against children is not taken seriously.
