WideWebWitch · 07/09/2005 10:34

They've got the same job, i.e, Lord Chancellor, (what odd job title) but are not same people I gather. Cod, theory is that hurricane ah, just realised I listened to this on radio and thought I knew the link but I obv wasn't listening properly and cannot explain it now I've gone to rtype it!

Janh · 07/09/2005 10:34

We were nearly right between us then?

WideWebWitch · 07/09/2005 10:34

munz · 07/09/2005 10:35

We were Janh!

tortoiseshell · 07/09/2005 10:35

What makes me mad about this though is that the lorries and farmers either don't pay any duty, or have vastly reduced duty to pay. But they inconvenience everyone else.

Janh · 07/09/2005 10:36

Oh they are 2 different people?

Does not knowing that qualify me for judgehood?

WideWebWitch · 07/09/2005 10:36

Oh just googled and it shut down refineries.

tortoiseshell · 07/09/2005 10:37

BBC bit here but it says prices are coming down again

Janh · 07/09/2005 10:38

Refineries in the US? But how much oil do we get from there anyway? Hasn't Saudi stepped up production/distribution temporarily to compensate? They are just seizing the opp to rip us all off while they can and the Govt could do something about that.

bit here seems to be saying prices shouldn't be affected now. So it was a quick buck for the oil companies then, hiking prices despite the fact that they had reserve barrels. And barrels and barrels etc ad infinitum.

WideWebWitch · 07/09/2005 10:40

Janh we are on the saaaame wavelength today, totally agree!

Janh · 07/09/2005 10:41

Thanks for the BBC link, torty.

Breakdown of a 90p litre here - "product" 23p - ie if oil went up 10% that's an extra 2.3p a litre, 20% 4.6p. It did not go up 40-50% which is how much diesel's gone up by in the last 2 weeks.

munz · 07/09/2005 10:45

jan I thought ours all came from saudi as well?

expatinscotland · 07/09/2005 10:49

Penny pincher? He blows money like it's paper confetti on a parade. God knows on what, though - probably pay rises for himself and cronies and pensions.

munz · 07/09/2005 10:51

Easy solution get the railways working and get the freight off the roads and onto the railways, easing congestion, conserving our fossil fuels and then the poor haulage companies wont be able to ruin everyone elses day.
