Size 14, 38E body storms Hollywood?

Grazia front page this week,
Here
I'm sure there are many things that could be discussed about this front page, but for me it's the bra sizing. I have no idea who she is or what Mad men is, so I really am just talking about the inaccurate bra size.
Celebrities clothing/bra sizes and weight are regularly guessed by the media. All of this unhealthy for our body image. Bra sizing is always all over the place and a poor fitting bra has been linked as a possible link to breast cancer, and generally bad for your health. So isn't it important that these things are vaguely right? A size 14 body should be wearing a 34 approx, and no way are those norks an E cup, you're going H cup upwards there.
I regularly see I'll fitting bras on models, headlines such as this, why bother? Why guess the size rather than put nothing? Why put a model in the wrong size? Obviously I can't find examples now, but I often see models wearing bras that have a huge gap between their flesh and the band, with cups that are then to small.
It's just plain lazy, surly Grazia has a lot of women working there, are they wearing ill fitting bras?

Molded cups are fabulous! They are the only thing that make may flappy spaniels ears look anything like real breasts. The Triumph Super Soft is the best one I've found, is a full cup and a different sort or molded stuff, much softer and doesn't ridge with the movement of larger norkage. But, I'm not sure if it come's in your size.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 09/09/2010 15:00

Maybe my breasts are a weird shape and won't fit into moulded cups. Like square pegs in round holes Shock

msrisotto · 09/09/2010 15:01

You have square breasts? Shock

Just off to look up that brand of mouldy cupped bras.

schroeder · 09/09/2010 15:04

Christina Hendricks is soo pretty I can't take my eyes off her.Blush

I measure 35" at the band and 42" over my boobs does that make me a 34E or 36E? Why does my body not come in even numbers?

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 09/09/2010 15:08

I have oblong breasts ----

Jenai - that's how bras should be fitted. She probably only went to work there to undo some of the untold damage M&S have inflicted on the nations breasts. It is M&S so I remain slightly skeptical, do they do above an E cup?

Sidge · 09/09/2010 15:09

Wow Fermina, thanks for putting me straight on bra measuring I had no idea it had changed. Bloody shops and websites still state in their sizing guide to do that add 4/5 thing.

Hmm that means I have no idea what size I actually am...

OMG I should be a 26DD Shock

Where on earth will I find somewhere that sells that size?

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 09/09/2010 15:10

schroeder - I'd start you off in a 36 F or a 34 G...

FellatioNelson · 09/09/2010 15:11

I am a large 12, with 34E boobs. And they don't look like that.

Carikube · 09/09/2010 15:14

I'm a size 12/14 (ok, 14 in just about every shop apart from Monsoon where I can still get in to a 12) and am 38E and I reckon I could probably get my chest to look like that if I got some good scaffolding...

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 09/09/2010 15:14

Sidge - tough job TBH. You'll probably have to end up settling for a 28 D. Maybe try tracking down some Italian brands? Italian stuff is usually very small...

msrisotto · 09/09/2010 15:17

Maybe i'm just self conscious but i'd hate to have my boobs rigged up and out there so much. They kind of look like little bald men and personally, make me feel fat. When they'er sitting in a more natural position, they don't look ridiculous. But hey, I guess that is why she is a celebrity and i'm not!

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 09/09/2010 15:28

Nah, you're not odd. I'd have hated to have my breasts trussed up like that too, when I still had significant breasts that is. I've shriveled down to a 30 DD now.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 09/09/2010 15:37

Carikube - are you sure about that bra size, sounds suspicious to me. Have you measured recently?

I know I'm being very dull here, sorry. But, for some reason I care about other MNers norks Hmm

nancydrewrocked · 09/09/2010 15:45

fermina thank you- sounds like you should be the mumsnet resident bra fitter! I'll have to see how I go on the fit it is just so frustrating that so few maternity bras are stocked in store meaning you end up with hit and miss Internet shopping - gah!

On the plus side this is baby no 4 and so coutesy of three pregnancies and BFing I do have bras in virtually every size imaginable.

MerryMarigold · 09/09/2010 15:52

Those norks are air brushed and pushed up! They could easily be an E cup in RL.

cyteen · 09/09/2010 15:54

I clicked on this thread thinking it would be four pages of outrage over the absurdity and nastiness of that headline. 'Body storms Hollywood'? I imagined some sort of headless, vengeful zombie tearing through hordes of vacuous execs.

It's like a sexist dream come true - never mind the woman's career, her acting achievements, her role in a lauded tv show. Just look at those great big hooters.

Women's mags are FUCKING FUCKING SHIT.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 09/09/2010 16:22

Indeed cyteen, womens' magazines are total and utter shit. I wish I was surprised by their stupidity and misogyny but it's all too predictable. Which is the reason I refuse to buy any, ever.

If you think that's bad, see what GQ did to her. here, admittiedly iy is quite old, but none the less shocking for it.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 09/09/2010 16:25

(yes, I know GQ is a mens mag)

Scaredycat3000 · 09/09/2010 20:40

Wow, this has been interesting Smile
Yes women's mag's are shit, I said there where many things that could be said about the front cover, but I picked this. I still have no idea who she is, and don't care really TBH.

Sidge You could try Panache, their back sizes are very small and I generally go up a back size and down a cup size, so for you 28D. Figleaves have them.

Fermina I agree with you Smile.

I agree that M&S are awful.

Before I discovered Bravissimo, I used to go to M&S and wore bras that were a 36C. Then I went and got measured properly and came out a 28F.

These days, I've put on weight and am now a 32G/H. My back can fit into a size 12 easily, and sometimes I can squeeze my boobs in too. If not, then I wear a 14.

LizzieMint73 · 10/09/2010 09:38

Getting back to the papers and mags printing size wrong, this is something that has bugged me for years. Jordan is usually quoted as being 34 something (like DD or E - I don't really read celeb mags or tabloids), which is clearly ridiculous as she is very slim so is likely to have a back size of 28 or 30 and probably a cup size that is off the scale, or H or I or somethign. Similarly Victoria Beckham is also usually quoted as being 34D or 34B depending on which implants she currently has, but again she is so tiny that she will really be more like 26/28 something. I am 32F/34E depending on style, which DP refuses to believe because 'the sun' or whichever tabloid rag was laying round in his works tea room said that the page 3 girl was 36DD and her boobs were much bigger than mine LOL

MuffinToptheMule · 10/09/2010 14:08

I've just measured my self and by back size is exactly 32 inches. My bust size measured 36 and a half. What size would this make me according to the new way to calculate?

EauRouge · 10/09/2010 14:33

Fermima, thanks for adding to this thread, it's been very informative. I've always wanted to know where the 'add 4/5' rule comes from, it's never made sense to me- you don't add anything to your waist or hip measurement Confused.

I went to Victoria's Secret once on holiday and they tried to get me in a 36D (was a 28FF at the time) and I thought the woman was going to slap me when I demonstrated how unsupportive the back strap was- you could have got 2 of me in there when I stretched it out!

I was told at Bravissimo that most of the supporting should be done by the back strap, not the shoulder straps. Since then I've never had problems with shoulder straps digging in or back straps riding up.

Scaredycat3000 · 11/09/2010 14:31

Muffin
That would be a starting point of 32D/DD.
