well in the Spanish news anyway. I was watching tv this morning and they had live coverage of a bull run. This is not something I agree with but it is part of the country I live in, so I was interested. Anyway all these crazy men are charging down a street followed by 6 or 7 huge bulls. They headed to the entrance of the bull ring and someone didnt open the doors quickly enough. Anyway the first line of runners fell and there was a dominoe effect and people were piling up on top of each other, about 10 deep, There must have been 100-150 people. The next thing that happened was the bulls tried to get through this very small gateway and clambered over the pile of people. It was horrific for people and the bulls. Eventually space was made and the bulls and people got out, 63 injured, 2 critical. I really cant understand the appeal of this spectacle.

What really pisses me off is that the bulls are drugged before they 'fight'. Not much of a contest is it? They then have spears stuck in them, usually around the jugular vein, until they bleed to death.

The torreodor then stands there preening himself and is considered a superstar.

All wrong.

RTKangaMummy · 28/08/2005 23:57

Yes, they were dumped in December on ADVENT sunday so was very cold

RTKangaMummy · 28/08/2005 23:57

I didn't know about that Bubble

i didnt know that either, I thought that they were exhausted by the picadors etc before the superstar came on, god it gets worse, not that being stabbed taunted etc is acceptable either. You should read Toro Toro, its a great kids book.

Fox hunting is debatable but this is just plain cruel.

I agree with animal testing for life-saving/enhancing drugs, if suffering is kept to a minimum. My child or a lab rat? My child wins every time.

Fox numbers have to be controlled. I hate the dressy-uppy-let's-have-fun aspect of fox-hunting. They need to be killed/controlled, but why have fun in the process?

Bull running/fighting serves no purpose, and to watch an animal slowly bleed to death is sick, IMO.

lucy5 · 29/08/2005 00:07

its interesting that its not considered a sport here, its an art form and when advertised it comes under, spectacular or entertainment, yeah right.

Let those torreodor f**s fight an un-drugged bull then. That would be 'artistic.'

lucy5 · 29/08/2005 00:13

exactly, if a bull fighter is killed , they kill the bull and the bulls mother. Its unbelievable really.

A lot of 'animaly' people in the UK really get me down. The type of people who dig up old ladies and terrorise families for breeding guinea pigs for animal research should not have access to any life-saving drugs tested on animals IMO.

I sat in an enclosed cafe in a park recently with my three little boys. A couple of women tried to come in with their dogs. They were told that dogs weren't allowed in and they were mightily pd off. They looked at my children with such hate, as if to say, 'why are they allowed in and not my precious dog.'

I clocked the look and said to the old cows 'Yes, you may hate children, but your dogs won't be paying taxes to keep you in incontinence pads in a few years time, will they?'

All wrong in this country. Genome research provides the possibility of curing people of horrible diseases, but a few tossers are burning down labs and intimidating scientists to save mice and guinea pigs? WTF?

But then, Spain. Taunting and torturing sentient animals for 'art'. They should be banned from trading within the EU until this has stopped.

lucy5 · 29/08/2005 00:31

I know it was a serious post bubble but you really made me laugh. I could just picture the situation, I can never understand how people feel more strongly about animals than children. It's strange there are so many people like that.

These type of extremists dont do anything for their cause, do they?

I don't support bull fighting though, to my knowledge, Pamplona's run is about letting the bull run free down the narrow streets and some people running in front of them. Still, don't understand it, but not as cruel as bull fighting. More dangerous for the people than for the bull.

Regarding fox hunting being debatable.... I really don't see any difference with bull fighting, both are done for the spectactors enjoyment, however, the hunters don't eat the fox, do they? at least the bull's meat is always eaten. Not that I justify it though... Glad that England has forbidden it and hope that in the future it would be possible to enforce the law. ...Still, long time before Spain decide to do something like that though. :-(

paolosgirl · 29/08/2005 11:29

Not just England, Chandra. It's not allowed anywhere in the UK.

expatinscotland · 29/08/2005 12:47

It makes me sick that cruel and sickening 'traditions' like 'bull-fighting' are allowed to continue.

You gotta wonder who would pay money to witness such a disgusting thing.

It should be banned immediately.

As for people who get injured doing something as stupid as the Pamplona run, well, good for the bull.
