Cam · 28/08/2005 16:12

My dh heard an item on Radio 4 the other day which said that a survey showed that 15 % of people believe there are definitely aliens in our galaxy.

These people were then asked who should greet the aliens if they ever came to Earth.

The top 4 answers were

  1. Nelson Mandela
  2. Tony Blair
  3. Tom Cruise
  4. Madonna

PSML esp at numbers 3 and 4

Who answers these surveys? pmsl

daisy1999 · 28/08/2005 16:17

Michael Jackson!! surely he'd be first choice being one of them

stitch · 28/08/2005 16:18

nelson mandela, lets ee, isnt he the guy who ditched his wife of three decades once she had worked so hard to get him out of prison just because some of the things she had done didnt match the required public relations image?
and tony blair, ten years ago, i would have said yes, actually, make that fifteen, i am older than i realise, but since he has had to become americas trained dog, no.
tom cruise, not as bad as mandela, but still pretty low.
madonna, only logical person. knows how to play the system so she is the winner. id go for her definitly.

hercules · 28/08/2005 16:21

Surely should be Bush. Tooootally trust that man.

bloody not

stitch · 28/08/2005 16:22

lol hercules.

Tortington · 28/08/2005 16:23

didn't winnie beat people and alegedly was behind some really dodgy stuff involving people ending up dead?

anyway! cam superb subject.

who shold greet the aliens. kofi annan becuase A Un representative would be better than one nation.

stitch · 28/08/2005 16:23

remember those old b movies, when it got all serious, and theyd pick up the red phone, 'get me the president'!
pmsl

lucy5 · 28/08/2005 16:25

i'd have dumped winnie too!

lemonice · 28/08/2005 16:25

Tom Cruise... War of the Worlds was a practice run then

stitch · 28/08/2005 16:26

yes, thats what they said about winnie.
i never said she was an angel. i just think the way nelson treated her was abominable. and it makes me puke how the media thinks the man is a saint.
i am totally against apartheid, but they werre the government, and they must have had some reason to put the man in jail. and sadly, that is the way politics happens in some countries.

SenoraPostrophe · 28/08/2005 16:28

not fair on NM, stitch. I think adultery was the actual reason for divorce, but the things she had done were hardly minor misdemeanours.

anyway, I think it should be Richard and Judy.

lemonice · 28/08/2005 16:30

Patrick Moore

Davina McCall

Eugene

lucy5 · 28/08/2005 16:30

in honour of suzy, Has this thing kicked off yet?

bran · 28/08/2005 16:31

Oooh yes, and Richard can tell the aliens that he totally empathises with whatever trauma they feel at exploring a new planet because he was once falsely accused of shoplifting.

stitch · 28/08/2005 16:32

wel, for goodness sake, if your husband is locked up for three decades, then you would want some nookie too.
i just think the man is a man. and not a saint. and i still think it is an abominable way to treat the wife who has spent her life supporting you.
and how do you know that nm wasnt involved in this sort of thing? he's a politician in africa....

hercules · 28/08/2005 17:16

pmsl at Richard and Judy!

Mytwopenceworth · 28/08/2005 17:39

Well, it depends. If they are like the aliens from Mars Attacks, then George Bush, Tony Blair, Richard (from Richard & Judy) and Jordan.

On the other hand, if they are like ET (!!) then Gordan Brown, Sharon Osbourne, Judy (from Richard and Judy) and MEEEEEEE!!

Cam · 29/08/2005 20:45

lol 2pw, I also found it hilarious that people surveyed would assume that the aliens would be friendly

I think its more likely they would be "greeted" , while still some way off from landing (aaarrrggghhh, I'm buying into this)on Earth, by the might of the USA's weaponry

stitch are you serious?

nooka · 29/08/2005 21:03

But he did stand by her through the Stompie trial, even though the evidence suggested that she was connected (and this was the torture and murder of a 14 year old). Wasn't the adultery after he was released from prison? In any case many marriages don't survive long periods of seperation, and you could just as easily say she traded on being his wife whilst he was in jail. I agree that in reality no one is a saint, but he is an incredibly impresive person.

I think that if there were aliens they should be met by a group of people, not any individual.

Flossam · 29/08/2005 21:04

I think they would refuse to believe TC was for real! They would probably think that he came from their own planet! (No offence to Aliens!)

LilacLotus · 29/08/2005 21:09

kofi annan, maybe

MarsLady · 29/08/2005 21:14

I've seen Independent Day and believe me... I won't be on the welcoming committee. They got zapped first!

I'll be on the plane giving the ultra patriotic...only WE can save the earth speech.

PMSL

I resisted posting as long as I humanly could. And before you ask...........NO my rellys will not be coming down to earth. I sent them videos!

Papillon · 29/08/2005 21:17

only 15%

I would have answered myself, but if I was having a sick day then David Icke.

Think out of the 4 listed that Madonna would be the best candidate !! she is a pretty out there explorer of life

monkeytrousers · 30/08/2005 14:22

Are we really dissing Nelson Mandela cos he divorced Winnie? How do we know he treated her abominbably? Did John McCarthy treat Jill Morell badly when they spilt up on his release? We don't have a window into these relationships so none of us are in a position to judge any of them. Crikey!
