First of all how on earth has he got the time to do this new role when running a mega empire?

Secondly how can a man whose wife "Tina" is the direct owner of Arcadia who happens to live in Monaco and was paid £1.2billion without paying UK tax, how can this man tell us how to identify waste? What possible advice could he give us to save money, do as I do move to Monaco, put your business in your wife's name, save tax, simple!

Hypocrisy springs to mind................

Quite. Just a nice job for a wealthy Tory donor who probably pays less in tax than the cleaners at his HQ.

NomDePlume · 14/08/2010 18:17

Why are their "names" in quotation marks ????

ilovemydogandMrObama · 14/08/2010 18:17

Fundamentally though, he understands retail which is not the same thing.

NomDePlume · 14/08/2010 18:19

I wonder how much they're payng him for his services ?

Meglet · 14/08/2010 18:24

Just had a look on newsarse and am slightly disappointed they haven't 'done' this story yet.

semicolon · 14/08/2010 18:25

A friend who worked as a flight attendant on private jets was once asked to change her clothing by one of Tina's flunkeys cos she didn't fit in with the in-flight cour scheme!

Am awaiting expose of Tina's lifestyle

semicolon · 14/08/2010 18:27

That should be 'colour'

Am not pissed. Yet.

Miggsie · 14/08/2010 18:27

He might recommend putting bar codes on all the staff and tracking how often they move from their desks? Then he'll accessorise the suits with sequins.

TheCrackFox · 14/08/2010 18:30

How can we trust anyone who runs BHS? It is a shite shop.

semicolon · 14/08/2010 18:32

Might as well have got Kate Moss

noddyholder · 15/08/2010 09:15

He has the air of a dodgy market trader/wideboy!He hangs with celebs and how he will fit this into his busy social life god knows.I think this pick and mix govt is heading for disaster which is fab as they haven't a hope in hell of beating labour next time

legoStuckinmyhoover · 15/08/2010 18:54

Absolutely incredulous.

Beaaware · 15/08/2010 22:13

I just don't know how Sir Green will be able to hold down two jobs and be with his wife in Monaco? Why could David Cameron not have advertised the Whitehall vacancy at a job centre, must be plenty of experienced accountants looking for work. Is this a job for his mate I wonder?

How can his wife be a tax exile from the UK when she's South African?

What kind of expose are people hoping for? She's a billionare, it's hardly going to come as a shock she spends lots of money is it? It's not as if she's living outside her means.

Beaaware · 16/08/2010 09:43

I think it's a plain as black and white he pays her a vast amount of UK earned money to avoid paying a vast amount of UK tax by living in a tax haven (Monaco) they are in effect exploiting a UK tax loophole. I wish I could locate to Monaco to avoid paying UK tax.

" I wish I could locate to Monaco to avoid paying UK tax"

Well, you can't critisize them for doing something you would if you had the opportunity! :)

Beaaware · 16/08/2010 14:02

Yes and I would be a hypocrite to if I accepted the job that Sir Green has just been given.

I don't get what the correlation is between identifying waste in departments and his paying tax though? His (totally legal) financial affairs are anything but wasteful.
