You'd never see that here. They like to stash their millions offshore and pass it to their feckless excuses for children.

there was a great tradition of giving in this country, most of our hospitals were built by philantropists, as were many schools (which are now exclusive and private) and also housing.

I think this tradition was basically nationalised and the idea was that the state would provide. The US has never really ascribed to that concept, for better or worse.
