My House is infested - WHAT ARE THEY? WHAT DO I DO?????

Panic stations:

Got up this morning, opened the kitchen door & patio do to let a nice breeze through the house, sat down, had a nice cuppa and began watching the TV.

Cats come in, and promptly jump up for a stroke, and suddenly notice tiny, tiny little insects crawling on my arm - damn cats!

Hour later, can still feel these little things.

Take my cup to the kitchen and spot a few marks on the cooker top, so go to wipe them off, realise that these black marks are MOVING!!!

Cue scene from horror movie where everywhere I look, the kitchen is covered in these tiny black insects - FREAK OUT, run to the dining room, they are all over the walls & ceiling, same in the living room.

I've come to realise after a major "OMG we're infested" that it's not the cats fault and I don't think it's the house, they are coming from outide (ie. huge amount of these beasties on the curtain on the patio door that is open, not on the other, none upstairs -thank god as no windows are open, looking on the windows, they are outsside too).

For the last half an hour, I have barracaded myself in the house, running round like a mad woman armed with fly spray and have been HOOVERING THE WALLS!!!

What are these things?
Why have they been sent to attack me?
WHat can I do? I have guests round in a few housrs and don't want them to ee how discusting my house is!!

They are all over me - arrggghh!!

We've had a huge amount of rain over night, but it is very warm this morning, could that have anything to do with it?

Please help!!!

Thunder bugs! Do you have crops growing near you? In my experience you just have to live with them - they'll bugger off in a week or so.

Sorry.

They sound like thunderflies or 'thrips'- are they about 1mm in size?
You get thousands of them in humid thundery weather and they can get through the finest of meshes. They are harmless.

agreed, thunderbugs I think.

Thanks, have just googled what you suggested and that's exactly what they are. We live in a pretty rural area,so that makes sense.

A combination of shutting all entrances/exits to the outside world has helped, that and a full can of fly spray (not good for the lungs though).

A good vacuum of the house & a shower is in order now - can't stop scratching - Urgh!!!!!
