please talk to me about ironing board covers

what are the best ones to use, string or elastic? do you get what you pay for, is there a knack to fitting them (undomesticated!)

I've just bought a cheap string one from wilkos and it's all lumpy

Buy one which is closest in size to the ironing board you have. We have a v. long board, and it was a nightmare getting one to fit. In the end we went with an expensive one (Brabantia string one) and it fitted perfectly!
