Hot drink spilled on varnished wood table

My mil thoughtfully poured her cup of tea over my varnished wood coffee table, and by the time I realised what had happened the drink had left a large white patch.

Does anyone have any sugestions as to how I can repair the damage? Or is it a lost cause?

I seem to remember seeing somewhere that you can iron out such a stain, or maybe I just dreamt that...

find your local HG products stockist (usually the old fashioned hardware/ironmonger type shops) and get their meubeline. it's really good at getting water marks / white marks out so hope it helps
