did you have to do the week of eating everything in there whether it matches or not, meals like potato croquets, chips, fishfingers, burgers, cauliflower and sprouts?

mrsflux · 30/06/2010 13:22

Nope. I waited till there was v little in it then did speed defrosting. The stuff went in cool bags and I defrosted it in 2h last night with lots of trays of hot water. Roasting tray was most effective.
Only bready hinge defrosted an I just put them back- well it's only bread. None of the stuff in cool bags defrosted at all so put it back.
Will report back if any food poisoning!

mine is always full and i can only get a rizler in there at a squeeze. please explain how i get it down to nothing.

You don't need to empty it - ours never is. Pile all the stuff on towels on the floor/kitchen table, and pile more towels on top.

Put pans of boiling water on each shelf of the empty fridge to speed up defrost.

The food will be fine by the time the freezer is defrosted.

If it's really bad have a good rummage and see how many dinners you can get out of it for the next week or so. That should help. Also chuck stuff that's been in forever as if you haven't touched it in say 6 months you never will!

Puttig all the frozen meat etc in a cool bag worked well- I could tell because none of the ice lollies melted a bit in there so assumed meat was still as frozen
