What to do and how often

Prompted by another thread (I didn't want to hijack and it wasn't the time or place) but what should I be doing daily, weekly, monthly etc to keep my house nice?

The background is that I'm a dreadful housekeeper. Think most people's DH and that's how I am about housework. I honestly just don't see most of it. I have been fluttering since April and so my sink is shiny and I do a swish and swipe each day. I do try to do the daily mission but don't always get round to it. After the initial burst the house was looking a lot better but gradually it is getting worse again. I'm trying but just don't know what to do when.

Can anyone help? What do other people do?

There are too many variables. It depends on the size of your house, how much time you have, what your standards are. I reckon every home needs a good clean once a week, including changing sheets. You may need to vacuum more often than that and it depends how dirty your kitchen floor gets as to how often you should wash it. Ditto bathrooms/loo. is the loo being used twice a day or 22x a day? Once you've decided on frequency of jobs, make yourself a rota so you know when to do various jobs. Include things like taking out rubbish (depending when binmen come) and also things like wiping out fridge before your main shop. Don't forget to factor in the occasional jobs like wiping woodwork, cleaning round light switches (once a month?) windows (how dirty they get depends on where you live ha, ha!), and the dreaded oven cleaning. Good luck!

personally I have a rota.....I need to see it all in writing to make sure it gets done!!

I have daily jobs such as clean kitchen sink and surfaces, clean loo and bathroom sink, sweep kitchen floor, hoover downstairs, wash dry and put away a load of washing.

Then I have other jobs divided up on a rota (dusting, hoovering upstairs, changing bedding and towels, mopping etc).

things like wiping skirting boards and cleaning the fridge/oven etc I aim to do once a month. don't achieve it particularly often though!

I used to be shit at housework but I am getting better if I write everything down I also use the Slatterns thread on here because they are lovely and I can have a nosey at what they do everyday too.

Most days:

Make beds
Put some washing in/hang out.
Kitchen surfaces and dishes
Quick tidy round upstairs and downstairs.
I always sweep the kitchen floor at some point because it makes it easiar to mop (which I do about twice a week).
I clean the loo and bathroom everyday but I have 6 dc so needs must but all I really do is wipe round seat with a parazone wipe, chuck some loo cleaner down and have a quick wipe round the floor.
The bathroom just gets a quick wipe over too.
I have to hoover downstairs everyday too (dog and crawling baby)
Quick evening tidy round after dc in bed

Once a week

Dust (fun with a feather duster
Wipe down sofa (leather)
Hoover upstairs
sort and put away clean washing
strip and remake beds
Mop

When I am in the mood

Clean fridge/microwave out
Look under the dc beds
Sweep/hoover stairs
Under sofas
Clean windows.
Whack ceiling with sweeping brushto get rid of cobwebs

Stuff to remember

babywipes are your friend they clean everything

Don't try and do loads at once just do a little bit everyday.

Do the 15 minute thing on days you really can't be arsed I am amazed by how much I get done in 15 mins.

Buy yourself stuff to make it easier like storage /nice cleaning stuff (method is nice)
put some music on or if you are in alone listen to an audio book while you are cleaning.
