Cutlery drawer

How many knives forks spoons and teaspoons is enough? I am fed up of old mismatched cutlery so have gotten 30 of each of the above and 12 soup spoons Dp laughed but as a family of now 6 and at least 2 extra mouths to fed most days I think it may not be enough [dishwasher gets turned on once a day]
Also what else do you put in there I cannot always close mine due to the essential never used bits that hide in there [including dd hospital name tag ]

As a couple who have friends/family over, we have 12 piece (2 x 6) set.

DreamTeamGirl · 29/06/2010 20:17

:-)
I now have TWO cutlery draws. 1 with 12 of each knives & forks, and 6 of soup & 6 desert spoons plus 15 or so teaspoons and then about 6 or 8 assorted serving spoons
The other draw was a junk draw but I cleared it out and got a new slightly different cuttlery tray from Wilkos and that has the sharp knives, steak knives, potato peeler, cheese slicer, grater etc etc etc. This is where things like lighters and felt tip pens slip into.

Its so nice especially as I am totally anal about cutlery and have the small forks pointing upwards and the large ones pointing down and the same with desert and soup spoons I loathe it when some one 'helps' and puts the cuttlery away all wrong and I have to wait till after they have left to correct it...

30 of each might be ateeny bit over the top, but I can see your logic

Buzzybb · 29/06/2010 21:04

I am glad you see my logic esp as I have not mentioned the dessert forks or the fish forks and knives or the steak knives
I keep prep knives on the counter and all the bits I use daily grater, peeler, ladles and spoons are hanging up I can't understand what all the stuff is
Dream I might need to liberate another drawer
Marvelous I hate washing up so I am afraid of running out of cutlery
I also will not be telling DP some one else thinks it may be a bit ott
My reasoning is have enough for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper and do if we have a snack or visitors. God I am lazy

Ahh now I only said it could be a TEENY bit OTT

I have all that for 2 of us ... and DS uses small cutlery for a lot of things- You are feeding 6 for 2 meals and 8 for the third. Is it nice new cutlery anyway?

Buzzybb · 29/06/2010 21:55

Yes I was given a very large gift voucher for New Bridge Silver so was able to buy it in the sale yesterday and it matches the fish forks and knives which were gifts. My dd
I can remind DP that I could have used it to buy a handbag or swapped vouchers with my sis and gotten shoes [that would be a whole other thread ]
I have put dd plastic cutlery into a lunch box and into the cupboard so that my shiney cutlery looks nice
