please anyone who has any experience with fortnightly rubbish collections, tell me, what else can i do?
I double bag everything, put most leftovers in the compost etc, and disenfect the fucker every time its emptied ( inside and out! ), and i still have maggots in it, fly eggs around the rims etc.

it make me sick, the smell etc, please help me, i can't stand it anymore.

Possibly the flies are laying eggs before the rubbish gets to your outer bin, flies are sneaky buggers and if you have flies occasionally in your kitchen that could be the problem. Do you use disposible nappies and always wrap them before binning. My dh also pours a kettle of boiling water & some jeyes fluid over the bin every few days as I loathe this happening and he's says it worth it for a quiet life !

I pour pretty much a whole bottle of neat disinfectant round the sides of the bin which seems to kill any maggots when they appear. I hate fornightly bin collections as I can't stand flies or maggots, bleugh....

I'm sat here racking my brains because I've never had maggots in my bin (not being smug at all, I would probably throw up if I did find them). We've had fortnightly collections for several years now. I hardly ever clean my wheelie bin out because it is a shitty job, probably 2 or 3 times a year.
We keep the bins away from the house, behind the shed (line of bins; 2xcompost, paper, recycling then proper rubbish) they are next to the hedge that has quite a few birds nesting in it, maybe the birds eat the grubs. My cheap bin liners tend to break as I throw them into the wheelie bin and we always have leftovers in there.
I'm a bit confused because we live on the edge of the town and get some massive flies from the cow fields and my neighbours have three dogs (which poo in their garden) so if anyone deserves maggots its us.

im not sure why we get maggots jenroy, only in the summer, my bins are constantly in the sun, ( nowhere else to put them ) so i don't know if that makes it worse.

plus they are at the front of the house, and the smell is horrendus.
I clean it out as soon as i get home the morning after its been emptied.
i literally spend 2 hours boiling the kettle, and pouring bleach+dettol all over/inside it, ( i fill it nearly all the way).
I even keep the scrubbing brush and mop i use outside in a plastic bag because i don't want it in my house.

if it was every week we wouldn't have a problem tbh, but 2 weeks in the summer is just too long.

Have you tried freezing your chicken carcasses/waste meat etc until collection day? Is it nappies?

Filling your wheelie bin with boiling water is not going to work. You would be better leaving it open in the sun to dry out.

OTTMummA · 29/06/2010 17:05

dry out with manky maggot juice in the bottom?
surely hot water and bleach should work?
is there some kind of industrial strength chemical i can use to keep the flies off?
something between napalm and demestos?

I've found what one of my friends uses (her Dad "found" her a load so we didn't know where to buy it from) Called Bin Buddie this is the first time I've tried to do a link so bear with me...www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Bin-Buddy-Dustbin-Freshener--Insecticide-Berry/55627011
If the link doesn't work it's on the ocado website.

jenroy29 · 30/06/2010 10:08

It did work when I tested it!
Her Dad also uses bomb type things I'll get back to you later with what they are called!

OTTMummA · 30/06/2010 17:01

jen - turns out i have nerve pain, and the spasming is part of that, im still being investigated though, they arn't sure what is causing it..
but its started in other places aswell now, i also have numbness and pins and needles in odd places, its interesting, but getting annoying now.

When I posted about the disinfectant - I meant that I pour a bottle of neat disinfectant around the rim, letting it cover the inside surfaces - and then just leave it. It gets emptied into the dustcart when the bin does. This seems to work.

Sorry, I wasn't being clear.

jenroy29 · 06/07/2010 14:42

Had to chuckle to myself this morning when I opened the wheelie bin and a maggot crawled out, I felt abit sorry for him as he was all alone. I didn't look in to see if there were anymore but guess what I'll be doing friday morning?
