Help I think we have a hornets nest in our wall

I have seen them going in today from outside through an air brick - there was a weird scratching yesterday evening from inside and there a few dead ones on the drive today.
What should I do ? Can I treat it myself??
Thanks.

Contact your local council - they should be able to deal with it. I paid them £50 last summer to treat a wasps nest in the loft. (We are private owners but most, if not all councils offer this service.

Oh gawd - we had this - basically I never found the nest bust every morning at 3am I'd be chasing or two around the house.

Best of luck getting rid.

council say they can't help due to staffing issues - I could pay a specialist, has anyone just tried to spray one before?

Are they really hornets or just wasps?

The council man who came to our house let me intoo a secret. All the council will do is put ant powder into the air brick with a pump and hope it works.

Once the wasps crawl through the powder they drag it into their nest and it kills the nest and the queen.

If you go late at night when it is cold and the wasps/hornets are all at home you could pump the ant powder in there yourself. It usually comes in a tube which can be squeezed and it comes out like a cloud of talc.

I did this several times and it worked well but if you are very sensitive to wasp or hornet stings dont do this yourself as it could be dangerous.

good point - had another (quick) look and think its wasps.hornets were on drive earlier so maybe they were from somewhere else .

will try ant powder tomorrow eve. thanks been.
