Bunk Beds, do they ever tip over?

I want to get my children bunk beds and have noticed that the ladder always seems to be on the side rather than the end. I know my children will be hanging off the side of the ladder swinging backwards and worry that they could pull the bunk beds over on top of them, if that makes sense. Can this ever happen or do I just sound like I'm mad?

We had really, really high bunkbeds for a while. I worried the same as you, but DH and I had to climb into the top bunk when we changed the bedding, it was that high. It never even looked like tipping! And all four girls used to climb all over it, hanging from it etc.

I think there'd be more stories in the newspapers if they were prone to tipping over.

We have John Lewis ones where the ladder is sort of integral/built in. They're good solid wooden things - you'd really have to try bloody hard to topple them.

If this is really going to stress you out there must be a way to bolt them to the wall somehow.

Thanks, your right I guess the papers would be full of 'killer bunk bed' stories.

You could always put these on if you are worried wall straps

Surely the legs by the wall would prevent any tipping? The bed would actually have to break in order to fall. Unless it is going to be in the middle of a room of course!

Very good (and obvious) point Gentle, I why didn't I think of that? I feel much happier about them now.

We've got wooden ones with an integral side ladder. There's no way I could see them tipping over. They're pretty heavy and sturdy.

I've got the metal ones with the itergral side ladder - can't ever see that tipping over!
