How do you clean your washing machine door seal??

Because mine is minging. It's got black mould in the folded-in inner rubber bit that won't wipe off (although to be honest I'm a bit scared to go near it). Can I just chuck some domestos extra strong toilet cleaner on it for an hour or will that perish the rubber??

The only other thing I can think of is to purchase a new seal but that's quite a hassle to change...

Thanks!

I use a strong soloution of 2 milton tablets and about 500mls hot water and wipe off with a cloth

make a paste using biological washing powder and lemon juice and smear round. leave for 15 mins or so. use old toothbrush to scrub a little if REALLY bad. wipe off.

finish off with a bit of bleach and water solution for a final rinse.

( nb don't mix bleachy water with any bio powder that contains ammonia in ingredients unless you want to fall over!)

I spray mine with Dettol 'Mould & Mildew' , leave for a bit then run the machine, empty, on the hottest wash with some bio powder.

I don't.

I wipe it every now and then with a damp cloth - assuming that any grot which won't wipe off is indelibly attached to the door seal and so won't come off on the washing either.

Good point Pogleswood... I like the 'path of least resistance' approach, although my innner ocd-self finds the idea of obliterating it quite satisfying.

Do you close your machine door between washes? If so, that might be why the seal is mouldy. If you leave the door open when the machine isn't in use it shouldn't go mouldy. Mine doesn't.
