What equipment should I have in my utility room?

We recently moved into a house with a utility room It currently has our freezer, a washing machine and tumble dryer and a decent amount of cupboard space. However it still gets cluttered - we have laundry drying in there, recycling currently sits on work surfaces so not much of the space is usable, walking boots and wellies are just piled up etc. There is a lot of wall space that could be used for shelves.

I've agreed with DH that we should spend about £200 to get it a bit more organised and usable. So now I'm looking for top tips on what to do with it.

I am planning to get one of those ceiling airers to make the laundry less in the way. Any other gadgets or storage solutions that you would recommend? Anything that you think is essential for a utility room?

A Sheila to dry clothes (hanging from the ceilling)

I keep all the childrens school clothes in the laundry. It gets iorned in there and either hung on the back of the door (arail on the door) or put away in a draw or basket.

I have draws for hats,gloved,scarves.

A shelf for school footwear.

A high shelf for medicine,first aid,cleanning produts.

I also manage to keep all my linen and towels in a big victorian cupboard.

Iorning board and iorn.

Washing baskets both for dirty, clean and iorning.

I love my laundry.

Drawers for hats, gloves, scarves = excellent idea. I will use that one for our utility room-to-be!

go to Ikea

get one of their fabulous wire drawer systems, a drawer for each member of the family. As soon as stuff is dried you bung it in theri drawer. Saves all that mindless sorting into huge piles

do you have a sink in there? I have a huge deep sink for washing welllies/sandy stuff/etc

Drawers for hats, gloves, scarves is a great idea! They are the sort of thing that roll around in there getting in the way at the moment (which is particularly ridiculous seeing as it is summer!)

Will check out Ikea - the wire baskets sound good.
