Can you help me with my fridge please?

My fridge has gone slightly doolally and started freezing things Including a carrot that I then couldn't slice and a can of diet coke that exploded everywhere!

You know the numbers on the fridge dial that go from 1 to 5? Which is the cold end and which is the less cold end? I've tried turning it a little in each direction but it doesn't seem to have made a difference and I don't want to turn it too far either way in case it either freezes everything or it gets too warm! So if you either know or have a new fridge that you still have the instruction book for and could look I'd be very grateful! Thanks!

1 is usually the warmest, with 5 being the coldest... HTH

Coldest end would be nearest to you and no.1.

Have you tried defrosting and cleaning it. Turn it off take everything out nad start again after it's had a good clean and frozen back has gone.

Don't put easily perishable stuff at back like eggs or carrots.

Good luck!

Admittedly I haven't looked in the freezer part of it for a while (it's a fridge freezer, but the freezer part is tiny and I don't use it much) so if the ice is getting out of hand there then that might be causing the problem.

On the numbers front though I think MaryBS and WowOoo are saying the exact opposite!! I presumed all fridges would follow the same convention to avoid confusion.....

Strange! Ours is colder the higher the number is. We've just come back from holiday, and to defrost the fridge/freezer, we had to turn it to zero, ie the lowest setting!

Just a thought, one way to find out:

If we turn our fridge to a colder setting the motor kicks in to cool it down. But if we turn it to a warmer setting, it doesn't. Can you perhaps try seeing which way makes the motor start?
