Getting socks white again

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 02/06/2010 19:39

Just washed all DD's socks with a big scoop of Vanish as they are filthy. Then pegged out in the sun. Still stained with mud, pen, oil, God knows what. Anything I can do to get them stain free? TIA.

I'm going to try Swarfega this weekend on a big pile of socks destined for the bin if it doesn't work.

Pre-soak in napisan or biological powder for 4 hours.

Bibbity is right; the OP could also try pre soaking in very hot water with plenty of white vinegar in it, overnight is best.

You may not have much luck with swarfega!!

I know it is not very ecologically sound but I buy new ones if they fail to come up very white

Couldn't get napisan so soaked for 4 hours in vanish powder and then washed. Too late to peg out in the sun so I will hang them on the airer later and see how they have come out.

I will also try the vinegar tip.

I would buy new ones but it is so near the end of term I want them to last. I have decided to economise as I have the most ungrateful kids in the world.
