Stains on kids clothes

I'm sure this has been done to death, but here I go anyway.

Is there a way to get old stains out of kids clothes? Some of my girls' nicest clothes have annoying food stains on them - any way to shift them once they've been through the wash with Vanish etc?

repeated washing and line drying in the sunshine helps them fade over time...

If they are greasy stains you can put a little talc on them and or soak overnight in very hot water with a good amount of white vinegar in it.

That works on oven gloves !!
